The wedge is fantastic to watch when the surf is big. Watch do not go in unless you are a very strong swimmer and better surfer. It is very exciting to surf there even when surf is small and then is a better time for the less experienced.

Freezing cold water, but we had a great time just looking at the powerful and strong waves. Life guards are on duty, but still need to be very careful. I highly recommend going there, but please be safe when you go there.

It's a nice spot to see some wave action if your local you like to drop in from time to time &check out monster waves. But I think it's a bit overrated .

I grew up in the area and return every year and nearly always bring guest to the Wedge. The wedge name comes from the fact that the waves break into the jetty that forms the entrance to Newport Harbor. The park at the entrance to the wedge (just a small stretch of beach) is a great place to relax, sit... More

This part of the beach in Newport is a famous body surfing beach. When there is high surf it is quite amazing to watch the body surfers. The waves come in and are reflected off the north wall of the jetty creating great waves. If you want to do more than just watch, be warned, when the Wedge is pumping... More

I am down here for work and wanted to finish my day with a walk. The further out you drive you can park on the street for free. Nice area.

Great place to take a walk and to take the children to play in the sand. Usually nice and not too crowded.

When there's a large swell, Wedge is a Must see. You will understand the word awesome when your jaw drops to the sand in absolute awe. This is a spot to view, NOT for tourists to even be near the water. In the summer months there's no boards in the water from 10AM to 6 PM. The wave itself is... More

Wonderful spot...even the Hawaiian's know of the Wedge. Nice walking beach, Jetty is great to hike out on when waves are flat, and even small waves have tons of power in the right south swell direction. It is very deceiving the power even a small 1 - 2 foot wave has here. My Father used to live here for a... More

The Wedge is located at the junction of the Newport Jetty and the Balboa Beach. When the Northwest swells are met with a south wind, waves can be as high as 30'. A novice should only go there to watch some of the world's best surfers (both board and body). I had to pick a month of travel just to... More
