Have lived in the area over 30 years and have walked the lake during that time. Now the lake, with its night time "necklace of lights" is safe and pleasant. The most dangerous thing would be to get run over by a bike....lots of families...More

This is a great place to take a nice walk and there are plenty of restaurants in the area. You can also rent watercraft here.

Lake Merritt has something for everyone to enjoy. The lake is surrounded by walking/jogging paths, there's a bonzai garden worth visiting, farmer's market on weekends, lots of shops/restaurent all around, gondola rides available, and much more! Visitors should definitely add a stop to Lake Merritt...More

Very beautiful place to visit to walk around lake or just sit. There's other activities like kayak and boat gondola ride.

If you fall in by accident, go directly to a shower with serious soap. The water is in no way clean or safe.
