He is only five years old. Although he is interested in animals this visit was all about the map. He wanted to learn how to use the colorful zoo map. First it was a matter of finding the lions then walk to the other end to find the fruit bats, the warthogs, the tigers, then the gibbons, back to the... More

My Dad was a zoo veterinarian and I've had the good fortune to visit more than 30 zoos across the U.S. and the world. In that context, the Oakland Zoo is top notch and a great deal. Go to both the San Francisco and Oakland zoos when you visit the Bay Area. I don't think you can be disappointed for... More

Went to the zoo last week for the first time in about 25 years, On a week day weather was perfect no large crowds. Some Construction but not an inconvenience. Very nice time.

The zoo consists of a good varieties of animals such as Giraffe, tree frogs, giant tortoise, elephants, hyenas, Fruit Bats ... etc. It also has a skyride!! This feature beats SF Zoo. Because of its large area and terrain (it is build on a hill), it requires some level of physical strength to finish the whole zoo. However,

We love to take our grandchildren here. They are 3 and 5, so the amount of animals to visit and their ability to view them is perfect. Plus the children's amusement area is enjoyable.

We took our 9-month old to the zoo in the Spring of 2016. Pleasantly surprised at the high quality facility. Modern zoo enclosures with well cared for animals.

This used to be a small, humane zoo that a family could afford to visit, and indeed, see it all in half a day. The animals seemed well cared for and had appropriate habitats. This zoo is now in a period of expansion meaning higher ticket prices, more emphasis on entertaining high profile animals, and a much bigger "footprint.". As... More

The Oakland Zoo is a must see destination in the Bay Area. Our family has visited many zoos thru out the country and The Oakland Zoo remains in our top 3 favorite. The animal welfare work they do only serves to endear them to us further. The zoo is clean, the animals easy to view, and the educational opportunities for... More

We love this zoo. It is clean, not usually very packed. The animals look healthy and happy. The food could use some upgrading and healthier options.

Nice location and selection. Easy access. Hard to see some of the animals through scenes and displays but overall kids seem to enjoy it.
