This is an incredible Modern Cathedral. The seat of the Diocese of Oakland. The Glass structure with the wood interior also creates an incredible acoustic effect. We were there for the Celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus...More

One of the most dramatic churches we've ever seen anywhere in the world. Soaring ceilings, cantilevered platforms for the organ, light filled gallery. This is a must-see no matter what religion you are!

The cathedral is housed inside a piece of modern architecture that pales in comparison with the grandeur of baroque or gothic European cathedrals. However, the inside is simply magnificient. It is cavernous, airy, and bright from the natural light filtering through the layers of wood...More

We visited this cathedral last year. It's by Lake Merritt in Oakland. Beautiful cathedral, worth a visit to and possibly worship, if so inclined.

This is like telling someone to see the Guggenheim in NYC. This building is spectacular and is worth the easy access from BART at 19th Street Oakland, and you get beautiful Lake Merritt as well. Make sure you go downstairs to see the Mausoleum and...More

This modern cathedral is very impressive I really liked the way the light shines through hence the name, it may be too modern for some people but it is very cleverly done.

As long as it is light outside it should be easily visible. We were there mid day, until about 4 in the afternoon for a special event. It was overcast, but still clearly visible.
