We slavishly followed our gps to get from Sonoma and Napa via Trinity Rd and then Oakville Grade. Trinity Rd is both curvy and graded so that your car slants toward huge drops. We were in a rental that did not handle well in abnormal driving conditions. The abject terror was not worth the heavily wooded rural scene at all.

Hadn't driven this road in years. Drove it this week in our Miata MX 5 and it was a blast - much better condition than I had remembered, not as dangerous but still lots of twisty turns. Saw some deer while on the road. Several off shoot roads also will bring you joy.

During our visit to the wine valley we stayed in Sonoma. When we plugged our winery into the GPS it routed us over the Oakville Grade rather than back tracking to the main highway. When we turn off Sonoma highway there was a fire truck blocking the road. The fireman explained that against all the warning signs someone had attempted... More

Not for the faint of heart, the Oakville Grade is something we always look forward to doing while visiting the Napa Valley! The Grade is never recommended for tourists but years ago a local told us about it and we have been driving the route to get to and from Napa and Sonoma for years. The windy, elevated road has... Looking at a map, you may think this an easy and fast way to cross between Napa and Sonoma...NOT! It is a beautiful, winding, mountain road, with a variety of meadows, woods, flora and fauna. Well worth the 30 minutes or so that it takes to cross, especially if you are not bothered by many switchbacks, unrailed outside curves and... More

The road is narrow with switch backs and steep grades. Don't drive it at not or when wet. I would drive it again as one of the other reviews state. It's a must to get the real feel for the local life.

Not one of those people to talk about "having" to this and "must" doing that but...Oakville Grade is essential! Just back from my fourth trip to Napa and I still needed to find a way to travel Oakville Grade. Planning my fifth trip to Napa and I'll be travelling Oakville Grade again.

We were going from Napa to Sonoma so we took this route. We did not do it as an attraction but simply the road from point a to be. It takes about 30 minutes to get across. It is not like driving through the mountains in Colorado but it is certainly one step down. You don't get that high and... More
