    Beautiful and interesting lighthouse
I visited on a rainy Friday afternoon, but it was well worth it. The lighthouse itself has an interesting history as the longest active lighthouse on the west coast of the US. The museum has a lot of interesting information and the volunteers are very friendly and knowledgeable. While you can't climb up to the lantern room, you can get really good view from below. Of course, seeing the lamp flash against the overcast sky is really great for us lighthouse buffs. I highly recommend.

    Definitely go inside!
The history was extremely interesting. Very friendly people that provided an immense amount of history to this cute lighthouse. I highly recommend taking a tour and spending some time asking questions and learning about the history. Well worth the $7 to get in.

    Beautifully restored
Wonderfully restored lighthouse setup as a museum ($7 entry fee per adult). The grounds are also well done and quite beautiful. Amazingly, this lighthouse is still functioning and maintained by the US Coast Guard. Note, that most people think they have to park on the main street, but if you drive through the entry arch there is plenty of parking inside the lighthouse grounds. If you collect lighthouse stamps, you can get your book stamped at the gift shop in the small building at the rear of the lighthouse.

We came on a Friday, but unbeknownst to us, it is only open weekends. Actually, we tried a variety of ways to see as much of it as we could and it looked like a cute little lighthouse. We also walked to take a look at the little golf course that sort of wrapped around it, 10th Tee, I think it was called. A bit ragged, but strangely, if I were to be interested in trying a round of golf, I think it would be there. It’s a poor man’s Pebble Beach. If and when we return to the area, we probably will try to come back here. Why? I am not certain. But I think I would.

Point Pinos Lighthouse is the oldest continually operating lighthouse on the West Coast. The building, lenses and prisms in this Pacific Grove lighthouse are all original, and it is still an active aid to navigation. Thanks to docents John & Lorrie Bridges for making our visit extra special.

Visiting a lighthouse is always an educational experience but I was disappointed to find the gates locked and could only view the outside of the lighthouse from outside the fence. Photos on the website showed an excellent attraction but not open to the public at this time. Grounds are open for a few hours on Saturday and Sunday afternoons only.

This is a good CA example of a nicely preserved lighthouse. Unfortunately with the virus, access is currently limited. It's surrounded by the golf course, but you can still pull up in your car to get a look. Check for when it will again open.

If you are in Pacific Grove, and have already visited the Monarch Sanctuary, then make the effort to visit Point Pinos Lighthouse, very close to the Monarch Sanctuary. It is a lovely building. A stroll around its perimeter is attractive, were you not willing to leave a donation to enter the lighthouse.
