- David MarinoCalifornia673 contributionsFantastic! We have a second home in the area and this is one of our favorite things to do with friends and family when they’re in town. The museum has a wonderful permanent collection, much of which is on display in the three-story portion of the museum. Seasonal exhibitions are in the front galleries, and this month’s exhibition features local desert artists who are making an impact on the region. It’s absolutely fantastic and the work is very compelling. Plan to spend a couple hours here and don’t miss the sculpture garden on the lower level. There’s also a new restaurant opening in a couple of months which rumor has is going to be fantastic. One of the top things to do if you’re in town visiting, or if you live here to become a member.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten October 29, 2023
- Joel KVancouver, Canada3,734 contributionsFun time. Great exhibits. Super staff and volunteers. We went on the free admission Thursday night from 5 to 8 pm. It did not disappoint at all. Great crowd of people. Nice people watching. Great exhibits. Saw small Picasso exhibit. Wonderful glass exhibit. And Mexican contemporary art exhibition.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 10, 2023
- ZenDark30Portland, Oregon4,350 contributionsImpressive ArtThe affluence of the area helps make this a great midsize town museum. It has a series of changing exhibits as well as it’s permanent collection. Parking is easy and free with a large underground lot across the street. It’s downtown so you can take in the other sites of Palm Springs while there.Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten January 26, 2024
- MemoChicago, Illinois111 contributionsPut on your Palm Springs to do listSo the architecture of the museum works well. Even before you enter the building large sculptures by Henry Moore. Inside on the second floor other Moore works plus real special Calder. This piece is worth the price of admission. Inside, The museum exhibits are logically separated by three floors with large well lite rooms with high ceilings giving the visitors room to maneuver with several good sight lines. The modernist Mexican artists, Rivera, RuffinoTamayo and David Alfaro Siqueiros are uniquely displayed between PreColumbian ceramics. There’s much more including Picasso drawings in the lower level. Meh. The gift shop is small, but well stocked.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 1, 2024
- joaniemariaEldridge, Iowa5,077 contributionsAlways worth a visit. A wonderful art museum!Always worth visiting. We like to go on Thursday evenings when it is free. It also allowed us free admission the Architecture and Design Building a few blocks away, which is worth a stop. Go on a Thursday, and then visit the Village Fest downtown. There is lots of activity. There is a public parking lot across the street from the art museum. It has chargers for your EV. A wonderful art museum.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten March 23, 2024
- Ruth J3 contributionsA Palm Springs TreasureThe Palm Springs Art Museum is a jewel not to be missed. There are so many impressive sculptures, but the Arthur James rhombicosidodecahedron (!!) at the entrance is stunning. Outdoor sculpture garden is lovely. Architecture and acoustics are first rate. The Norman Zammit "Gradations" display is also great. So many features. A place in which you can lose yourself for hours. Just great.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 27, 2024
- David MarinoCalifornia673 contributionsHappening! There is so much to see here, and it’s the best ticket in town. The new Norman Zammit show is not to be missed, and the Queer Art exhibition from the permanent collection is strong. Amazing permanent collection, great architecture and a new restaurant opening from a top chef. Go with friends and family and you will love it!Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten April 4, 2024
- Stephen F9 contributionsThis destination in Palm Springs is always very special. This museum is a treasure. It is ideally located two blocks from the Main Street of Palm Canyon. Try to take a Docent tour. They last 30-45 minutes, are free, and ALWAYS enhance the experience of the permanent collection as well as the Special exhibits. Today’s tour with Maureen of the Norman Zammitt exhibition was no exception. And don’t miss the well curated Gift Store!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 17, 2024
- VitarachelNewport News, Virginia176 contributionsWorth a visit in Palm SpringsThis is a compact art museum with lots of great art. Very easy to navigate, air conditioned, and free parking. It's terrible I can't remember, but I believe it was mostly contemporary art, and there is an outside sculpture garden. There were some school groups visiting when I was there and the space is so airy that it was easily shared.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten May 31, 2024
- Johnny TrekkieSan Diego, California11,247 contributionsModernPalm Springs is all about Mid Century Modern, so it should be no suprise that most of the art here is modern contemporary, which is my favorite! You're not going to find classical Renoir, Monet, Borticelli, Picasso, or paintings of Jesus dying. It's mostly all post 1900s art...weird, zany, funky, unique, wild, eccentric, and though provoking arts. Be sure to visit the bottom floor gardens as well, more groovy stuff to see! For $16 Adult, its a good way to spend 60-90 minutes, especially if its ridiculously hot outside!Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten June 17, 2024

Tickets are limited to specific times and are few in number due to the Covid 19 restrictions in place. We were on the iPad at 3AM a to purchase ours. An amazing and varied collection is to be found here in downtown Palm Springs. We were especially interested in seeing the Agnes Pelton selected works on display. Some 25 paintings are being shown. She arrived by train from New York, and found herself, in the light and warmth she thrived. I have posted 3 photos of paintings by her here. They are the impressionist looking pieces.

This is a must see if you are visiting Palm Springs. The museum has a wide variety of art, and sculptures. There is even a large exhibit across from the museum. Well worth the price of admission, don’t tell anyone but it is free to enter Thursday’s from 4 to 8 PM.

Great place, but not bike friendly, no places to lock your bike, we found a sign to use.
$11 for seniors $15 general public. We happened to show up right when the Docent tour started. There are 4 floors, the top three were added to the original building by the same architect years later. Cool blown glass exiibit, a great variety of modern art. Even a Picaso sculpture was present. As always, art is so subjective, sometimes you wonder why it is hanging in the museum, like the huge maroonish mural on the second floor they like to rave about. Overall entertaining, learned stuff from Docent that I would not have, although that came with a price of a bunch of stuff I did not want to hear :-)

...then get here quick! The current exhibit (which is all this tiny place really has to offer) is all cubes, and lots of them. The info on the internet about the museum is all wrong: it's open Monday, closed Wednesday, the admission is not free- it's $5. Definitely not worth it. However the gift shop is fantastic, and well worth a trip.

How refreshing it was/is to see some of our favorite pieces in new places and some new ones after the Covid-19 lock down! The current (June 2021) comprehensive exhibition on Agnes Pelton has 2 parts -- the Desert Transcendentalist(1) with many paintings exuding light and her Landscapes (2) that paid the way for this artist to live in Cathedral City and pursue her passions. This special superb show alone made the visit worthwhile due to the pieces shown and the labels that gave historical, comparative and biographical details. We also enjoyed the buzz of other museum goers on a still free Thursday evening. Do book tickets prior to your visit and enjoy the light of the reopening.

Seniors skip this during Covid. We googled the hours of the museum and just saw the hours so we walked in 98 degree heat to the museum only to be told we would need to book online. When we told them our phones did not have the ability to use the QR code she told us to walk around the museum (approx two blocks) to the ticket office and buy tickets there, we walked around the building to the ticket office to be told we HAD to book online, no other options
We walked back to our hotel and tried to book online from our laptop but apparently if you book online as a senior, you have to be able to print your tickets at home, again, no other option. So we will not be seeing what used to be our favorite museum this trip and the whole thing has left us feeling deliberately rebuffed.

Palm Springs Art Museum is very impressive given the small size of the community (full time resident). It’s location in the heart of downtown make it incredibly accessible. I saw a fantastic and comprehensive exhibit on mid-century designer Alexander Girard. Admittedly I was underwhelmed by its permanent collection. As a smaller institution I imagine their collection is largely due to the largesse of local collectors and is not especially curated. But, as they say, every thing is not meant to appeal to every body.

If you haven’t been to the Palm Springs Art Museum recently you are in for a treat. The area surrounding the Museum has been improved with a large park, below street level outdoor sculpture area which you look down on and the return of the larger than life Marilyn Monroe. Entry to the Museum is still by ticketed admission. There are standing exhibits like the glass artwork on the first floor from the museum’s own collection as well as traveling exhibits. You can comfortably enjoy the museum in a couple of hours. Admission is free every Thursday from 5 - 7 pm.

This museum can be digested in a couple of hours, and it's a wonderful experience. The docents we encountered were eager to share information and were exceptionally helpful. The temporary installations during Modernism Week 2020 were terrific, and one, featuring the work of Alexander Girard, meshed beautifully with the modernism theme. But the permanent collections are also absorbing and easy to digest. All in all, a great smallish museum with an impressive collection -- and the building itself is a modernism delight.

My visit to this museum was somewhat disappointing, especially when comparing it to the Met (where I often visit as a resident of NYC). The admission was quite steep, offering little value compared to the vast, diverse collections at the Met. Additionally, the customer service at the front desk was slow and inefficient, further detracting from the experience. Lastly, the exhibitions were average at best and weren’t very comprehensive. I wouldn’t recommend visiting this museum in Palm Springs, especially if it were your first time visiting the area.

Does PS Art Museum have reciprocal admission policy for MOMA or MET museum members? Separate tickets required for Art Museum and Design/Architecture center?

How much is the admission? "Everything you need to know" yet you leave out the cost. "Has free admission ALL THE TIME" yet only Thursdays for only 4 hours? A prestigious establishment should be more forthcoming.
