After attempting - and wisely abandoning - Museum Trail, we were directed to the Lykken Trail, which was much more doable and enjoyable with our 4-year old. We got a late start and, with no shade or rest areas, we made it to a rocky look-out after a solid half-hour walk before turning around. Would definitely go back, earlier in... More

Rigorous but not too challenging hike. First half hour is steepish and rocky then it gets flatter. Gorgeous views and light around sunset and early morning. Beautifully situated picnic tables on a peak if you want to bring food.

We took the S. Lykken Trail that was steep and narrow that took us to a flat peak with two picnic tables. Out and back it's about two miles with a 1000 foot elevation. It's relatively steep when compared to the flat trail which takes you through a blossoming landscape of wildflowers, bushes, cactus, and boulder formations. On the steeper... More

Great views. 30 minutes uphill then a long relatively flat trail with sweeping views of the valley. Go early as there is no shade on this trail.

Parking is available on the street. Start at the trailhead and be sure to bear left at the fork to get on the right trail. It is a moderately strenuous hike in my book. Start early in the day. From here you can go on the Museum Trail or to the North Lyychen Trail. We went in March and the... More

Starting right from Desert Lodge it takes me 5 min to the trailhead. Start 30 min before sunrise and you will get back beautiful views. A loop can be done in 2-3 hours, well marked trails, no water supply.

We are staying right across the street and enjoy this hike. Poles are helpful because of the switchbacks. A 45 min climb should put you at the picnic tables and a breathtaking view of the valley.

We hiked from south to north, ending at Tahquitz Canyon entrance. I'd call it moderately strenuous--at least for this geezer. I think the ascent at the south end is a little less steep than from the north. But the north end of the trail is spectacular with really sharp switchbacks and steep dropoffs. Great view of the whole valley. Everything... More

I start from the South trailhead. Always bring my dog. Sometimes get a little freaked out with her running on the large rock that border the steep hike. One slip would mean a pretty nasty fall. Easy to get great exercise even if just hiking to the picnic tables. Wonderful view. Go early in the am as it does get... More

Beautiful trail. I'd classify it as medium as far as effort goes. Pretty good length. I want to say it was 7-10 miles. Anyway there are gorgeous stretches of desert and we even saw wild sheep and rams.
