You can see the house and the garage from the street and that is it! Neither are open for tourists. The picture you see is actually better than what you see from the car because there is a barred fence. The picture taker positioned the lens between the bars.
I did find the adjoining neighborhood of Professorville very interesting if you like history, architecture, and meteroric price increases.

If you are in the area, it is worth taking a picture of the Birthplace of Silicon Valley. It is a pretty street, and if not for the plaque outside, you'd not know there was anything special about this place.

On the one hand, I'd like to rate this a 5, as it is quite impressive to think that HP, one of the first tech companies in Silicon Valley, started in this small, humble garage.

But on the other hand, it is just a house and a garage on a quiet street. Not worth a drive, but if you are in the neighborhood, worth a quick look.

This garage is a must see in any walking tour of Palo Alto. It isn't so much for how it looks, but to really appreciate the idea that revolutionary innovation can happen anywhere. Got a garage? You can change the world? Mighty oaks from little acorns and such. Be there. Do that!

I grew up around the corner. I get that this garage is historical but the constant passersby on this little neighborhood street who want to come and stare at it, is sort of ridiculous. It's just a garage, you can't go in. It's not a museum. People live there. Really, it's not worth it. Look at the picture posted above and move on.

I was living in Palo Alto when Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard were putting their ideas and business together.
It is such humble beginnings for such terrific men. Many years later my husband went to work for them. His experience was very valuable because he learned what all the employees knew and that was called "The HP Way"
Things have changed now but the garage shows that humble beginnings can develop into greatness.
We all need to be reminded of that. Kids need to see that so much starts small.

Located not far from downtown Palo Alto in a lovely neighborhood is the garage where Messrs. Hewlett and Packard developed the audio oscillator back in 1938. You cannot venture past an iron gate at the door of the driveway as this is part of a private residence. A historical marker provides some information in front of the house.

Very cool to discover this famous garage was literally right behind our rental fence. Our host had information posted on glass back door identifying it.

This is where it all started, the tech revolution. We walked from the Palo Alto Caltrain station to this location following Google Maps. When we arrived, there was nobody around. A very quiet neighbourhood and not really very touristy. But, for Engineers like us, this place was a must visit. You will not need more than 10 minutes here. Just take a peek at the HP Garage and you are done. You will also not be allowed inside as this is private property.

My husband works for HP on the east coast so the kids and I stopped by here on a recent trip out to CA. Very cool to see where it all started. A quick, easy stop if you are in the area.

It is a garage. It is a closed garage. It is not open to the public although you can see in through the fence. It attracts tour buses of camera wielding tourists. It is part of history but it is still just a garage. Go south a few blocks and you can also see the house where Steve Jobs lived. It is just a house.
