While visiting Paso Robles, our friend booked a wine tasting at this unusual winery. Years ago, it was called the Peachy Canyon 2 tasting room, but has come a long way since then.
It’s now a really laid-back place abiding by all the rules, with its tastings taking place outside on its pretty patio. At the moment all tastings are by appointment for members and their guests, every day except on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
There is a great outdoor seating area under the grapevines, from which our server picked a fresh bunch for us to eat while explaining all the different wines. Their wines labels all have interesting names and artwork, the inside tasting room is bright and cheery.
We tried the Robyn Cradles, Sofa King Bueno, Love Machine, but best of all was the Giant Oak.
They are also very dog friendly too!
TIP: It's worth becoming a member to avoid all the popular crowded places and just sit under the overhead vines and slowly sip their great wine.

This review is for our March 2019 visit (yes a bit late). We visited during Zinfandel weekend. We stopped here because I have had their wine back home and wanted to visit the source. This place is a little bit weird, but everyone seemed to be having a good time. I liked the Dead Nuts and the Purple Paradise. I have been able to get the Suite Petite back home for as little as $9.99 a bottle, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. It seems like the higher price point wines they sell are way overpriced in the stores. Typically I would be able to get the wine cheaper than what they sell it for at the winery. Odd.

I had a conversation with the manager of Chronic Cellars at the wine ppickup party – my wife and I did not have a great experience when we signed up for the wine club. To refresh your memory – we were at the winery the day after the Fourth of July – in the afternoon. Both of the girls were rude to us.

At yesterday’s wine pickup party we experienced much of the same from the same two girls. We were in the wine bar area – and you actually came in and pointed to us and said something to one of the girls.

When then proceeded to pick up our wine – the one girl you had previously spoke to was talking with another customer so we waited for her. Once she was done – she completely ignored us and went into the back room – kicking the door in the process – she then came back out with a mouthful of food and again completely ignored us.

We had been waiting at the counter for 10-15 minutes and both of the girls just ignored us and helped other customer’s.

I spoke to other people at the wine event and they had said that they had similar experiences with these two girls. I google searched Chronic and thee were comments about the winery catering to the 25 to 35 year old crowd – I guess they were right because I have never experienced this type of rudeness at any other winery. Opolo winery treats you like kings when you visit them.

I really enjoy Chronic’s wine and was willing to overlook the first incident but not the second one. It might not be a big deal to Chronic Winery losing one customer but I have only praised your wine to other people and will not recommend it anymore.

This vineyard came highly recommended as a must do in Paso Robles. We heard that the wine was awesome and that the ambience was fun. When we arrived the tasting room only had one other group tasting. There was only one person pouring and she did not seem very enthusiastic about being there. One of the girls in our group even joined the wine club and we ended up purchasing a case that day. We went back the next day to get another case of wine and the server that day was even less personable than the first day...... Which we didn't think was possible! The ambience on the second day was so uncomfortable that we didn't even end up finishing our tasting, but did leave with another case of wine. Come for the wine, not the service!!

My wife and I stopped at Chronic Wines recently and came away very disappointed. The wines were so-so and the server was very uninterested in her customers. She went through her spiel but without any enthusiasm.

On the plus side, the labels were interesting; Grateful Deadish looking. Some of the art was also interesting but not worth a return trip.

Sept 2019
In late September we traveled to Paso Robles for a family wedding. We targeted the Friday before the wedding for our wine tasting outing. To be honest we didn't get far because the wineries we visited were all great and there was a lot to enjoy about each of them. In the end we landed at Chronic Cellars with more than a dozen family members and friends. Our goal was to taste their wines and enjoy a picnic on their vine covered patio. Our daughter had told us about Chronic and how much she liked the wines and the casual, fun atmosphere of the winery and staff. She was dead on. Chronic is nothing if not fun, and their wines are surprisingly good. Add to that the colorful names and labels of each wine they make and serve, and we had a group full of smiles and belly laughs. I noticed one of the posters on the wall with the caption "Sofa King Bueno", and it puzzled me, until my brother said "say it fast". It fits right in with their "Rays in Hell" and "Love Insects". After tasting the 6 wines offered, we couldn't resist and signed up for their wine club.

Back home in Danbury a week later we get a hand written card from our hostess thanking us for joining the club. Two days later the 6 wines from the tasting show up via UPS.

What a fun and non-pretentious experience Chronic is. Do yourself a favor. Get your nose out of the air, humble yourself, and have a little fun. Chronic is sofa king bueno!

Fun laid back chill winery! Wines are pretty much all blends which certainly is not a bad thing. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. The tasting includes a nice wine glass to take with you. The outside sitting area is nice and shady and a fun place to hang out.

The place is cozy and small. We ate a quick bite on the picnic tables. The wine was fair that we sampled, but I’ve tried other varieties at home before and liked those better. This was a quiet day and so we were well waited upon by the server. She was nice and gave us background info on the wonderful artist as well. Fun stop.

I was introduced to their wine, while dining at Del's Pizzeria in Shell Beach. I really enjoyed the wine, so I decided to go out and check out the winery.
They were busy but they made room to one side for us to taste. They were really friendly and knowledgable about the wines.
The best part was the girl who commended us on our patience, then when I said I know the business because I work in it, then gave us an inter winery discount.
I love their sly use of words like Sofa King Bueno.
