As a low handicap female player I don’t recommend playing here. Other groups yelled vulgar things on the course. The caddies in our group did nothing about the situation. The caddies were always in my way or would forget I was playing in the group. As a female player I have been use to unfair or unethical treatment in the golf industry. I just hate I had such a bad experience at one of the courses I had on my bucket list. I can deal with cuss words. The words used were extremely inappropriate in front of a lady. I’m embarrassed for this golf course.

Very tough golf course. In good shape, fairways were good , greens were aerated, so were bumpy. Staff was OK, not really friendly and not really attentive. We played with / gentlemen who could not hit it past the ladies tees. Yet they were allowed to play the blue back tee. A 5 1/2 hour round

Spyglass was definitely our favorite course, then Pebble and Spanish Bay. Spyglass was challenging but fair. It was a great warm up before we played Pebble.
Having a caddie was well worth the cost and made the round so enjoyable. Would have been difficult to know where to aim and hit your shots without the caddie.
We also recommend you stay at the Inn at Spanish Bay

I was recently playing Spy with some friends. It was my first time playing Spy, and it was amazing. My caddy experience left a lot to be desired though. Scott Matacco was my caddy. Very knowledgeable about the course, but was heavily distracted. After engaging him in conversation, it turns out he was following and actually betting on games on his phone. He even offered to place a bet for me which I declined and thought was odd and if I hadn't been with friends that day I would have fired him on the spot.
If the gambling wasn't enough, he started drinking with one of my playing partners. I play a lot of golf at courses all over the country. A lot of my business is relationship building with clients on the golf course. If this were to happen with one of those clients, it would be highly inappropriate and I would have fired him immediately.
I let this go that day because I was with friends and didn't want to ruin a great day.

After not living up to my own performance standards at Pebble Beach the day before, I had high expectations for Spyglass. Although I had a rocky start, I turned it around after nine holes and had a strong finish. The course was unique, stunning and in exceptional condition. We had caddies which provided some invaluable insights. It's hard to say or write this out loud, but the golf experience at Spyglass was better than Pebble Beach for me. You really have to do them both and experience the best of each.

For $400, I was not impressed. The course was in good condition— not great. The amenities were comparable to a nice public course. The club house was very pedestrian, there were no towels in the golf carts. Three holes were noteworthy. One hole had a temporary green as work was being done on the regular green. For the money, I would have played any of the other courses at Pebble Beach. Played Pebble Beach Golf Links the next day and had a completely different experience (although, no towels there, either).

What an amazing course and facility, everything is built for golfers to have amazing experience. The staff was super friendly, the course was in super condition, everything just worked perfectly.
I want to play there again, hopefully many times.

Let me start by stating that I have played Spyglass Hill at least once a year since the early 80's (when green fees were $45). If it is not my favorite course, it is certainly in my top five in the world. I have always walked, taken a caddie and enjoyed myself whether I played well or not.
That said, during my most recent visit I was really annoyed by a non-sensical policy as it pertains to their caddie program. I brought a guest who due to some leg issues required a cart. When I requested a fore-caddie ($40 per bag ), I was told that forecaddies needed a minimum of three players and I would have to go with a full caddie at ($80 per bag). As we were going to be in a cart and didn't need the full caddie, I offered to pay the forecaddie price for a threesome ($120) rather than the full caddie ($160). The full caddie would naturally be working as a forecaddie as we were in the cart with the bags. They informed me that I couldn't do that due to some contract BS and that we had to hire the full caddie. In any case it was only a $40 difference and I wanted to get going. Now, here's the kicker. They end up putting my guest and I out with a single (now we're a threesome!), I had paid the full caddie price for two of $160 (+$100 tip as it wasn't his fault) for my guest and I. Of course, the caddie ended up working as a forecaddie for ALL THREE OF US! That's right, read putts, found balls, gave advise, etc. Really? First off, as twosomes are no doubt one of their most popular bookings, they should offer a forecaddie program for two. If not, they should at least allow a guest to pay for three, but use the forecaddie for two if they choose to do so. Finally, if they were going to put a single out with us to start with, why in the world would they force me to take a full caddie in this case!! I was really frustrated with this and every time our caddie helped the single (nice guy) read his putts and find his ball it irked me even more. It negatively effected my day and has effected the way feel about the course in general. I have already decided to change my annual guys spring trip to play Pebble, Spyglass, Spanish, etc. and go back to Bandon Dunes. Although Spyglass is a world class golf course, its' management and certainly its' caddy program leave a lot to be desired.

We had a beautiful round here yesterday. Course was challenging, but in a fun way. Views were spectacular. Our only drag was the caddy the other two people in our foursome used, Jerry. Jerry ignored us and focused on his clients, as he should. In doing so. He ignored when we were hitting, walking right in front of me on several occasions. If we were still approaching green and his clients were on he would walk up there and give them advice paying no attention to our need to get our ball on the green. Very frustrating taking away from an otherwise perfect day.

Yes, they will just pair you up with other non-foursome groups.
