A great tour, with a knowledgeable, passionate docent. The actual tour starts 30 minutes after the time listed on your ticket, to give you time to get from the visitor centre (with the nicer restrooms) to the staging area (with the porta-potties; I'm just sayin')....More

This area is just beautiful in general and we had a good weather day. The docent led us through the reserve and eventually to where the beach where the elephant seals had settled. These animals a huge, especially the large bulls. We were all watching...More

Highly recommend this tour! Inexpensive and great nature viewing. Make sure to book in advance if you plan on going on the weekend. We went in mid February and there were tons of seals all over the beach - males, females and pups. Great experience...More

We were lucky enough to get on the tour without reservations and had a really good guide. The trail to the meeting place is quite easy, walk to the viewing places easy but sandy, uphill at times and roots. We got to see big bulls...More

Went on the disability access tour. You can only make phone reservations for this tour. The pacing was pleasant and the weather today was ideal.

Although I had lived near San Simeon for years, but I never did any elephant seal tour. Suggest come between December to end of February, although most of the fighting action is in December while the baby seal is in late January. Do plan ahead...More

The tour is well organized & affordable! This preservation has one of the largest colonies and tour gives you a good 1/2hr to observe & photograph. Highly recommend if animals doing their wild thing is your thing. 😉

Well organized, beautiful walk and the elephant seals did not disappoint. If you have ever watched this from your couch, you need to go and experience this - you can get within feet of the seals. We will be going back next year.

Yes, you need to pay for a reservation,in advance, for self guided tour. There are no guided tours - rangers and docents are there to keep everyone moving in the right direction and provide info along the way.
