Best to visit from opening at 8 am to about 11, before the heat. Great walks amid succulents as well as flowering shrubs and towering trees. Lots of hummingbirds, and other birds enjoying the mulberries, if in season. Range goes from easy walking to dry climbing, with well marked trails. Great views of Riverside

Great grounds, beautiful benches and gazebos. Very large fun to explore all the hiking trails. Great view of the city if you hike up the mountain. I was not that impressed with the flowers and plants but I think it was because it was in January. Only have to pay for parking and recommended donation.

Beautiful grounds, hills, hardscape, and many plants over many acres. Drive right on campus and follow signs to gardens. Park right in front of entrance. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water and snacks.

My son had to do a project for his college class so we went here and I was surprised by all the different types of plants and trees there were. We actually had a good time walking around. There were 3 of us so we split up and went in different directions so we could later share what each of... More

Loved the plants and hiking under the beautiful blue sky on a warm day in February. Saw a curious bobcat. It ran off after a quick look. Great place!

This is a lovely area to just walk around. I like it especially on a cool California day because I don't like the heat. There are a number of different plants to enjoy and shaded areas to relax in. I'm not sure when but I have heard the university will sell plants periodically for great prices. Highly recommend.

This very hard to find attraction is worth going if you are not infirm, given to blubber, lazy, and, of course, not interested in things horticultural. The facility lives on a steep hillside with trails that are both paved and unpaved. There is a rather short accessible trail but this place is mainly for the hardy. In fairness, we did... More

December is a quiet month at the garden, with school not in session -- a perfect time to visit really. The cactus garden was the highlight at this time of year, but taking the meandering paths around the rest of the garden was enjoyable too.

The UCR Botanic Gardens have something for everyone. The kids can run off some energy on the shady lawns near the visitor center then look for fish and turtles in the pond up the canyon or watch butterflies in the butterfly garden. The cactus and succulent garden is my favorite, all year long. For the energetic there are many trails... More
