The exhibits explained a lot about the early days of settlement in the area and the importance of this fort. Be sure and visit when you are in the area.

This is a place where you can spend as little or much time as you want or have and it will be worth it. It’s relatively inexpensive to get in and you can move around at your own pace. The exhibits are well laid out...More

The importance of California in the American Experience and in today's economy can not be overstated. And this spot -- is where all that modern history started. The surprise is that it is so accessible, simple and enjoyable. If you have any interest in early...More

There's historical significance to the fort which is self-discoverable through static displays with auto-triggered audio. This was all lost on our toddler who had a good time anyway peeking into the rooms and interacting with the guides dressed in period outfits and doing period activities....More

My son read "Patty Reed's Doll" in school and really wanted to visit this site. There is a lot to see and it is a self-guided tour which is nice. Volunteers in the blacksmith shop were helpful and answered all of my son's questions. Best...More

Surprisingly disappointing experience here. The staff were rude (multiple staff in multiple ways including language uses and how spoken to, and shutting doors on people). Felt as though we were not welcome for the whole experience.

This is the reconstructed fort, but that reconstruction was done in the nineteenth century so it's almost as historic as the original.

There is metered parking on the street on most sides of the fort. We didn't have any trouble finding a spot and we were there mid-day in July.

We brought in water bottles and had no comments. I do not know if food or OTHER beverages are restricted. I believe the Indian Museum next door restricts food and drinks so it may apply as well. I will check.
