This museum has quite a few beautifully restored steam engines as well as other types of cars. Many you can walk through including a Pullman sleeper, dining car and mail car. The Pullman is even rocking gently so it really feels like you are on...More

Loved the first floor with the life size train cars. Great to be able to actually walk through them. Many volunteers around to answer questions and tell you things you may not have even thought of!

Went with good friend who’s husband used to work on the trains. His explanation and enthusiasm really made this great place into something special. Well worth a visit.

We loved this place! We would have given it a perfect score but the admission is a little high. We brought our four kids (6 and under) and they enjoyed spending about three hours here. It cost us $42 for 3 adult tickets and one...More

Far exceeded expectations - spent all day here and it didn't feel like we had enough time to really enjoy everything..

Highly recommend. Things for the whole family. Old and new engines, different eras. The model train set ups are awesome. Lots of hands on toy trains for the little ones to play with.

It's not that big-- one can see everything in a couple of hours. The toy train area is a great place for kids to spend an hour. The city parking garage nearby on I street for $10 a day is a good deal.

I've been to rail museums all across the country, this is by far the finest of them all. Not just a collection of old decayed machinery from a bygone era, the sets and displays of perfectly restored locomotives and stock take you back to the...More

Yes this museum is massive and all indoors. The area where the actual trains are is kind of like a huge garage/warehouse type of structure, but again it is all enclosed. I have visited more than once in the winter and don't... More

No, this museum is not a working railroad. However, the Amtrak to the bay is located about 1/2 mile from the Museum...and that will get you to/from SF in one day. Uber/Lyft from museum to Amtrak is only $7!
