The first half century of Wells Fargo's history coincided with the most explosive growth in transportation and communication technology the world has ever known. Journeys that once took months could be completed in days and messages that took weeks could be sent in minutes. Wells Fargo employed every technological advance to bring new and better services to its banking and express customers. Explore this shrinking world with authentic artifacts, documents, photographs and interactive exhibits including a telegraph connected to other Wells Fargo museums around the country. The museum store features a variety of Wells Fargo branded gifts, collectibles and apparel. Guided tours are available with advanced reservations and admission is always free. A Wells Fargo ATM is conveniently located inside the museum.

The person who serves as the museum guide is very helpful in instructing visitors on how first the Pony Express, and then Wells Fargo, helped the West to develop.

This is a one-room 'operation' which is reasonably well laid-out; kids would like it for the short time it takes to 'see'.

Loved watching the 20 minute video of the history of Sacramento! It talked about all of the hardships endured by the first settlers. From floods to fires they had it pretty rough. They quoted a lot of different people from that time. Must see if...More

The Wells Fargo Museum in Old Sacramento is family friendly stop that lets you soak in the local history of how WF came to be. Good little side trip to while walking around the local shops and parks.

This free museum is located on a corner in Old Sac. There is tons of information about the Pony Express and Western Union as forms of information. Also, there was an Wells Fargo ATM in case you needed to withdraw some cash.

We were in the area on a busy Saturday. There was something there that day for children to do, as the place had at least 6 kids around a small table involved in something. This is a very tiny (and free), museum that shows the...More

History lovers, don't miss this small but very interesting -- & FREE -- museum that give you a good sense of the development of Wells Fargo. Three of us found it very interesting.

I found this museum very interesting, especially the connection to Stage Coach robber Black Bart. I recommend researching this robber and his intense dislike of Wells Fargo!

I wouldn't actually call this a History Museum.. I would more call it a building with 2 rooms and some stuff to look at... If I'm not mistaken, this was actually the Termination station for the Pony Express. So if you're into that, or Telegraph...More

Hi, I need to know if this museum is accessible for someone using a walker. I can usually handle a few stairs if necessary, but prefer avoiding when possible. Also, any suggestions of other museums or places to visit that are accessible would be appreciated. We will be visiting Sacto around Sept 12th.

Gina: The Wells Fargo History Museum in Old Sacramento is temporarily closed for renovations. We do have another museum in Sacramento at 400 Capitol Mall. It is only five blocks from the Old Sacramento location. The Capitol... More
