Just west of Truckee is this popular hiking trail just off I-80 between the Big Bend and Rainbow exits. I began hiking this trail in the late ‘70’s, many times in the ‘80’s, so it was time to go back again. The lakes are scenic...More

Moderate hike within about an hour from Sacramento. Such a sweet discovery to hike for 4 miles and be treated to 3 mountain top hikes! I go at least a couple times every summer. Love it!

This is a good hike, took us about 5 hours up and back to the upper lake. There are sections that aren't too bad, but a good portion of the hike is walking on loose rock and climbing up and over rocks. Once you get...More

An hour from Sacramento, the hike offers elevation, a beautiful evergreen forest, plenty of granite, and beautiful lakes. What more is needed?

A summertime hike. Do it as a day hike or take Some gear and spend some time. Steep going in from Big Bend/Rainbow tavern, but not far. Small, scenic lakes.

I have backpacked this trail with the Boy Scouts. If you are not in good condition, don't try it. Beautiful High Sierra scenery, multiple Alpine lakes, not very crowded.

When told to “Take a hike” and “go jump in a lake”, I will gladly get off your nerves and go away. Needing to go away on a late summer afternoon, I took that hike and jumped in that lake on the Loch Leven Lakes...More
