Set in a beautiful park as a backdrop this building is spectacular. The soaring scale of the building and its rooms lets you know that this state was bound for greatness early on. It is quite easy to arrange a guided tour and the gentleman who was assigned to the group was exceptional. You get a great snapshot of government,... More

Learn about California, its capital buildings and grounds, and the state's governors; after the tour, do not miss the "museum" rooms which you can visit on your own. Not sure why the guide didn't take our small group to the rooms showing how offices were furnished 100 or so years ago; very interesting.

Brought my 4th grader to tour as, well, it's 4th grade! Although he hasn't gotten to Sacramento and the Gold Rush yet in CA state history, his teacher thought it would still be appropriate to bring him now. He was very interested in the tour and liked the Senate rooms. My kids liked the big dome and the grizzly bear... More

Don't miss a visit to California State Capitol Building! I thoroughly enjoyed wandering the halls of this beautiful old building with all its history! So well maintained, I felt like I was stepping back in history! Brass mailbox, elevator doors, original woodwork on staircase with magnificent carvings. Breathtaking rotunda. A visit to Senate chambers was a real treat! Lovely gardens,... More

We toured the capitol and historic offices, then went by the assembly chambers and senate. Was very interesting and gave a good perspective on the building and the work of California government.

What a nice touristy place to visit! We grew up in Southern California and pretty sure I have never visited. A few years ago we moved to Oregon and we have visited the Capital there. This one was beautiful inside and out. Of course there a newer metal detector screening you had to go through. But you could go up... More

The building is gorgeous and the tour is a free guided tour (sign up in basement, follow signs). The state worker (a woman with long gray hair that covered her name tag so I don't know her name) was very cranky. She told us at the beginning of the tour that if we paid attention that there would be no... More

I received a warm welcome and a fantastic tour of the California State Capitol. The tour lasted about 1 hour with a trained docent. I received information I did not know about. I would recommend this tour to anyone. The capitol is free, but the museum is a small fee.

Hello, Thank you for the kind words and the rating, but the Capitol Museum is absolutely free of charge. May I ask where and how much you paid? Perhaps you were thinking of another museum in the area. Also, I would like to pass your praise on to your guide. Do you remember his/her name, or can you describe your... More
