Wow just wow! I've had the opportunity to do wine tastings at a number of well known wineries in Napa Valley and this one really stands out for the fact that you get to actually talk with the wine makers themselves, taste the amazing wine...More

We booked a tasting at this winery and ended up in a small group (6 people total), which appears to be typical since there is no formal tasting room here. The windy drive up the mountain (~20 minutes from downtown St. Helena) is well worth...More

We have gone back to Smith-Madrone every trip to Napa. It is a no frills working winery. They do not have fancy caves or a glamorous tasting room like some of its counterparts but they do have some of best wine and most reasonable prices....More

We attended a wine tasting tour and really enjoyed it. By appointment only. Hosted by owner Charlie Smith. Very unpretentious. The wines were very special. This is not some Epcot version of CA wineries but is the real deal.

The tasting room is minimalist; just some plywood walls and tables. The Cabernet however was the best we had. Great staff.

Charlie Smith and his dog Curly welcomed us to their beautiful winery and gave us a lot of information about vineyards and wines. I loved Smith-Madrone's Rieslings, so we bought 6 bottles, chardonnay was great too. It was nice, warm visit with great great wines!

As anyone who visits Napa knows, free tastings are quite rare these days, so originally I was simply attracted by this factor. However, I absolutely loved it and would recommend it even if they started charging like so many other places. One of the original...More

Smith-Madrone is a family owned and operated winery, tucked out of the way on Spring Mountain. My husband and I called for an appointment to visit at the last minute, and fortunately Debbie was able to confirm we could go at 11am on a Friday....More
