My wife and I were recently in California visiting our son and his wife in LA, CA. We would spend a few days with them, take off for a short road trip, return to LA for a few more days, and then take off again. This past trip we ended up driving up the Pacific Coast Highway to San Francisco,... More

The museum is located downtown. It memorializes the literary genius of the great humanitarian. A well designed museum providing visages associate with the poingniant stories addressing key human interest concerns. A must see attraction in the Central Coast.

The perfect place to learn about the life and times of the incredible author, John Steinbeck. A beautiful building housing a mesmerizing display of John Steinbeck's life and work, as well as Salinas and surrounding areas. Great staff that seem overjoyed to greet every visitor and help them get the most out of the fine work put into the Steinbeck... More

This museum is very well curated and features engaging and educational exhibits about John Steinbeck life and work. The various rooms bring to life the characters and places from Steinbeck's famous books and are a joy to walk through and explore. There are many hands-on displays that will keep kids about (10 years old and up) engaged even if they... More

Stopped here on our way up the coast towards San Jose. Both of us had read Steinbeck in school and were mildly interested in this stop to break up the trip. The museum has a good introductory film that you should see before entering the exhibit (the docents recommended this) which proved to be helpful. The main exhibit is a... More

The National Steinbeck Center was a great followup to our guided walking tour of Cannery Row the day before. The museum presents a biography of John Steinbeck using a range of exhibits from videos, vintage photos and movie clips to mock-ups of old boilers used as living quarters during the depression. Anyone who enjoys Steinbeck's writing will come to a... More

Thank goodness for targeted advertising. (Did I really just say that?) After booking a night at Vision Quest Zoo Glamping, I got some alert of other things to do in Salinas, or I never would have heard of this place. The grandkids I was traveling with are not strong readers, but I wanted to give them some cultural exposure. In... More

We nearly bypassed this interesting museum but decided to spend a bit of time here to break up a day of driving. We were glad we did! It's been many years since we'd read any of Steinbeck's work. The displays brought back memories from the books as well as adding better understanding of why he'd written them. His love for... More
