Great place to visit if you are a reader of the famous author. The Salinas-Watsonville-Castroville-Monterey farming and fishing areas are well represented with cameos and vignettes in the displays and memorabilia, and the agricultural communities well-honored, including Latino, in the short film. I was not...More

You don't need to love Steinbeck or his work as much as I do to really enjoy and appreciate this lovely little museum. If you are visiting Carmel or Monterey it is only a short drive through the wide farm fields to Salinas. In his...More

This is perhaps one of my favorite museums I've visited in California. It is well laid out and comfortable, suitable for a leisurely pace of enjoyment or doable even if you only have an hour or two. I've been here 3 times now, about every...More

I am a huge Steinbeck Fan, I've read many of his books with 'Tortilla Flat' and 'To a God Unknown' my favourites. The former is featured in the exhibit which I found very enjoyable. It concentrates on his Non-fiction writing as well, especially his wartime...More

Gem of a place. Most people read Steinbeck in high school, or perhaps tried to @void reading any book. The center brings it all to life. Ties it all to Salinas and Monterey Bay. Worth a special trip.

I took my grandson 16 yrs old. He was impressed how that era was presented, and how much he learned just after 2 hours in the museum. I am sure it must be seen.

We are fans of John Steinbeck so stopping here was a must. It did not disappoint. It was informative and it was nice they way the museum organized everything by his books. The docents were helpful and we enjoyed listening to their extra knowledge. We...More

Extremely interesting displays that brought alive many of Steinbeck's books movies and life events. I now need to reread most books and perhaps some others. This is a gem to find.

I don't believe so. You could call and find out. It is self guided and there are many movie clips so I don't think it would be possible. It's not large enough for a docent tour. Read all of your Steinbeck books before you go!
