Excellect interactive displays, narratives, and great visuals bring Steinbecks literary work to life. Videos, audio recordings, and artifacts tell the story of rural and migrant life in the Salinas Valley, on Monterey's Cannery Row, and well beyond California in the 1930s and 1940s.

Very well done museum that's interactive and information in a very fun way! Would be good for children as well! After 4:30 it is free but you'll need 1.5 hours to truly go through everything

Had a short visit to the centre which is well presented. You would really need to be familiar with Steinbeck's books and writings to get the most out of it - so avid Steinbeck fans will enjoy it very much. It is 30 years since I read the Grapes of Wrath so was not so familiar with much of his... More

Be sure to allow plenty of time (say 2 hours) to see all there is to see here and learn all those little things you didn't already know about John Steinbeck's life and works. It is an amazing collection of facts and artifacts which give a really full picture of his life and times.

We spent about three hours in this museum dedicated to Salinas' most famous son. Not only did we learn a huge amount about John Steinbeck's life and work, but we also got a very good insight into the history of the farming industry in the area and of the people who came to California to work in it. The exhibits... More

I was pleasantly surprised when our work conference included a tour of the Steinbeck Museum. I learned a lot of interesting California history. I now plan to read some of his books. ( Nope, never read them in high school!!) The docent was really knowledgeable and nice, too.

I ca say without any reservation I am not the biggest reader of his material even though he has written some classic material. The museum itself lets you look into the life of the man and understand where and how he developed some of his most famous characters. It wqas worth the stop.

The museum is very modern with nice displays. If your birthday falls in February, in celebration of Steinbeck's birthday, you get in free. The short film at the lobby was quite interesting. Part Salinas, part Steinbeck. I only wish there are short summaries of all his books available. This way you can get more out of the display if you... More

I enjoyed the displays, some of which related to books that I haven't read and some that I now plan to read. There is much to see & read so plan to spend some time.

Having read a couple of his books we decided to visit the Center when in the area and how glad we were we did. The staff were all really helpful and the presentation of the life and times of this man was first class. Even if you knew nothing about his work it would draw you in

Thank John D
