The New Almaden Mercury Mining Museaum provides a good local history and facts about mercury mining. There are very good displays of artifacts and a tour of an old victorian home. Enactors demonstrate blacksmithing an other crafts.

This is the mine manager's house that was in use right up to the closure of the mines. Lovingly restored, the two storey adobe is amazingly cool in the summer without AC.
