Sadly, I did not know the full history of the Spanish missions in California. We just took a break from Highway 101 (El Camino Real) to see San Juan Bautista. Wow, what a fantastic find and a major favorite of my time in central California. The mission is huge and intact. It makes you feel like you have been transported... More

Came here back in fourth grade. A very long time ago. Nice place to visit. There is an entrance fee if you want to see what's on the inside of the mission but you can walk all over outside for free. I marveled at the beauty of the church and an alter to pray at for loved ones that have... More

The famous bell tower that Hitchcock filmed in "Vertigo" is long gone, but it was fun to walk the small garden and visit the sanctuary.

Visited on an overcast day when it wasn't overrun with crowds. Great to sit in the church and the garden and enjoy the lovely setting and the quiet.

Even reading the other reviews here, we had no idea that for an extra three dollars per person, you could tour the five or so buildings right around the mission. They show authentic 1800s buildings that sprung up around the mission. Includes a living quarters, Bar, dining areas, Staples, even a jail. Very cute and quaint, a lot of interesting... More

This lovely, little jewel is one of the most beautiful of all the California missions. Situated in the charming little town of San Juan Bautista and surrounded by the peaceful mission gardens and outbuildings, the site has been beautifully maintained. You'll need several hours to visit the grounds, church, museum and little town.

Visited the mission on a Sunday afternoon just to get out of the house. Have been to many of the missions, but not this one. Each one has its own story and history. Some are in ruins and some restored. This has a little of both with large grounds perfect for a little outdoor stroll. We had my 82 years... More
