Interesting local astronomers

While not at the level of the Mt Hamilton observatories, this is a very well designed amateur observatory that is more accessable than Mt Hamilton.

The Fremont Peak Observatory Astronomy group and park rangers have different activities like Dark of the Moon viewing times and the group invites people to join and go to the Annual General Meeting. The Programs are always interesting and kids are welcome.

This attraction is ideal for both science minded individuals and those who appreciate beauty. There is no fee to experience the wonder of the stars on a cool night with friends or family. Bring a thermos of something warm and prepare to enjoy the vastness of the night sky.

We liked the opportunity to observe both the sun and the stars with these great folks who seem to donate their time and expertise to share their knowledge with the public. We were hoping to learn a bit more about what it was we were looking at, but did not find literature that might explain it better. The gentlemen were... More

I wanted to go for a stargazing event on 8 Sep 2012 but didn't have any experience and deep knowledge about astronomy. I do not know what are constellations, where is the milky way, etc... Despite these, my wife and i decided to give it a try at such event. I did not bring anything, just my camera. The tips... More
