Some Movies just have to be seen on the large screen! San Luis Obispo's Fremont Theater is the place to see them. The Fremont takes you back to the days before home video when almost every weekend was spent at the local theater. Now equipped with surround sound and concessions to satisfy, the Fremont is a unique treat.

This is a big retro movie theatre that also hosts live concerts. We saw Ziggy Marley here, 8th row center. It was super cool! It reminded me of the old movie theaters we watched movies in years and years ago, like "The Alien" back in the early 80's! This theatre is in the heart of the downtown area so there's lot to see, shop and eat in the immediate area before and after. For a fraction of the price to see a good concert I highly recommend this venue!

Fifty years ago, was it the Fremont Theater? My sister and I played in the seats, crawled under the stage, and pulled on ropes and bags on other mysterious stuff hanging behind the curtains. Night after night we played and slowly absorbed the story of Alan and Gabby and Duke Mantee. Our father patiently cajoled and sometimes scolded the actors. One actor, a former student of my father's, a former Mustang, and a current member of the Chicago Bears was in the play. I think his name was Stan Sheriff-did he play Boze? If I remember, Gabby was played by a local disc jockey who dated my father and dedicated records to my sister and me. A colleague of my father's played Alan Squires. The play was so realistic to a first grader that I thought the man who played Alan actually died. After the production, I saw him in the restroom wiping off the"blood." It was thirty years later when I saw the movie with Leslie Howard, Bette Davis, and Humphrey Bogart. The Little Theater production was far better and more memorable. I would love to see a program or here from someone who remembers this production. I have seen a good deal of community theater these past fifty years and have performed myself, but the San Luis Obispo's Little Theater production of The Petrified Forest remains the most memorable.

We had/have tickets to the 7/13/2024 Hotel California Concert. The show was canceled and rescheduled for 2/15/2025 WITHOUT notifying ticket buyers. We showed up for the show along with many others only to be greeted by a piece of paper taped to the ticket booth telling us of the change. We spoke to others at the theater who had traveled from great distances and made significant sacrifices to be at this show.

Zero notifications.

Terrible.

We saw the Kiefer Sutherland Band here, just loved the old cloth seats, classic (crazy) interior, all seats are good (I think it only holds about 500?) Worth the admission just to be in the place! Food, Beer & Wine available in the lobby and can be brought into the theater (Now there's a Plus!)

I went to a concert here, and it is a cute older theater with I'm sure a ton of history! The inside in beautiful, but the staff seemed overwhelmed and unorganized. I arrived early to get in first when doors opened, yet they were allowing people behind me in because they couldn't figure out how to check people in... Then security just stood around, did nothing about rowdy or obnoxious people harassing the artist. Made the show actually un-enjoyable for the crowd. This place could be a fun place for events, but if they can't get it together I won't be back.

See what theaters were like back in the 1950's and 1960's.
We've lived here a long time and always loved the Fremont.

As locals, we LOVE this theater. The Fremont Theater is a historic movie theater in San Luis Obispo, California. It is among the last Streamline Moderne theaters built by architect S. Charles Lee. In the 2000s, developers wanted to tear down the building to install a new multiplex, but public outcry saved the theater. The company built its multiplex next door, capitalizing off the historic structure while also supporting it financially with the additional screens. It's the home of the very popular SLO Film Festival. Fortunately, good sense and great architecture prevailed!

Always love seeing movies shown in this theater. Rumor has it that they plan to knock it down and make it modern. That will ruin it. It is a remodeled, old-fashioned theater that is a great experience in itself. Don't forget to look up when you're in there.
