I ended up here this weekend while visiting my sister in San Luis Obispo with a friend. What an incredible place! The shop is literally packed to the ceiling and corners with books of every genre, author, and decade. The best part is that you truly don't know what little treasures you will find, so unlike large chain bookstores (even... More

I really enjoy browsing through used book stores and unearthing treasures. In the case of Phoenix Books, they are really "buried treasure". I would not call the store well organized, neat or even particularly clean. On the other hand, I could probably spend the better part of a day happily digging through the piles of books discovering great books at... More

I'm an avid book reader and have browsed through used bookstores worldwide, sometimes grabbing the only English-language book in stock, regardless of title. When I learned about Phoenix Books, I made a beeline for the shop when we were recently in San Luis Obispo. Alas, I cannot rank this store near the top of those I've visited. It is not,... More

This you never see, books being carried on the street. It means a good walking town, and theres a good used book shop nearby. Yes he said, around the corner, so I headed that way. What I found was indeed a treasure of browsing. Some basic order and then chaos, hence browsing is a Time sport, and interests bloom like... More

This is a bookshop for hardcore browsers. Most of the books are secondhand and used and the choice is enormous...and I mean very enormous. I saw a book of the same edition to when I was at university 40 years ago...someone must have studied Spenser as well as me! I bought a cheap book on films published in 1990. It... More

Stopped in here in search of a specific book. The store obviously needs more shelf space- the books are piled on the floor in places- but they are organized into general sections. The man at the counter was very knowledgeable. If you can't find something, just ask him and he knows where to find it. I did find the prices... More

This is a great place to check out books whether you need one or not. They have an amazing selection. My kids find the most popular kid series almost every time. It is a fun place to go in the evening when you are out and about.

If you want to pick up a used book to read while on vacation or if you're just a book lover in general, this would be a cool bookstore to stop at. They had a huge new arrivals table to go through. And it also had interesting subsections to go through. It's not the most organized place, seeing as there... More
