We visited on a fairly grey and chilly day in August. We had no clue what moonstones looked like but a friendly couple on the beach kindly showed us what we were looking for. Spent an enjoyable half hour or so combing the beach for moonstones; kids and adults alike got involved. Spotted Dolphins swimming close to shore which was... More

We stopped at Moonstone beach on our drive from San Diego to San Fran through Big Sur in Nov. 2016. It is a very rocky and unique beach. There is a grassy park there as well where you can picnic. We had no problems parking but I should note our visit was an overcast day. Not really a beach to... More

Most people pick up see through rocks. This was enjoyable for the entire family. Walking and picking up stones along this beautiful beach was well worth it.

You have to know what you're looking for. Just follow around one of the locals who are usually willing to show you! We found lots of small ones but delighted on tying to find "the treasure ".

Long well maintained boardwalk about 2 miles long. Across the street are eateries and hotels. Rest areas. We saw lots of whales, and dolphins. Nice beach to walk on. Absolutely beautiful

This is a beach I hadn't been to in many years and was happy to find that a boardwalk had been installed and that it is part of a state park in Ca. The water was so pretty, lots of blues and greens, with crashing waves. You can also rent a hotel room right across the street from the park,... More

Nice quiet beach with no sand all rock. It is a nice peaceful area to relax. Spend time looking at all the different rock each is unique to the other. This is not a very populated area so really nice.

Nice beach with limited swimming due to strong tides. Fun to sift through the rocks in search of the illusive "moonstone". We had a local sit down by us and tell us there is no such thing as a moon stone but that is what they call the semi opaque little stones. We prefer to say we found moonstones. You... More
