The Elephant Seal Rookery on the beach at Piedras Blancas, San Simeon is home to hundreds of these 5000+ pound, 14 to 16 foot mammals. Stay on the upper walk as the signs read. The seals don't like to be messed with especially during mating...More

This was such a unique experience! I have never seen so many seals in my life! I highly recommend this to anyone that wants to experience California coastal life at it's finest, or for anyone that just needs to brighten their day! Really fascinating!

It's just wonderful to see these animals at such close quarters. If you can go as dawn breaks so you can see the big males come in from the sea

What a wonderful place. Beautifully laid out from the carpark. There weren't a massive amount of elephant seals but certainly enough to keep us entertained, think it must have been the mating season as there was lots of fighting going on. Never having seen an...More

We were lucky enough to be visiting this coast while the elephant seals were onshore and birthing. There are thousands of seals on several beaches. Parking is plentifully and free. Some have wooden walkways and "guides " to enhance your viewing experience. Take plenty of...More

Stopped at the Elephant Seal Rookery and couldn't believe how many seals were on the beach. Saw a baby seal being born which I hear is rare. This is a place you have to see. .

We drove here after visiting the Hearst Castle in early January and we were so happy we did. First off, keep in mind this rookery is wildlife in the raw, so it is not all sunshine and roses....but at the same time, the coastal scenery...More

There are seals all year round. It just depends on the season as to whether you’ll see more males, females or yearlings. Look up their website for what is there different times of years

Tour lens will be fine. Lower your expectations about what you'll see and certainly about their "activity".....they mostly just sleep.
