We don't do culture. It interferes with eating and drinking. However, if you are visiting Santa Barbara, don't miss it. The views from the top are worth the effort alone. A truly magnificent building.

We arrived at the Santa Barbara boat harbour via cruise ship tender boat and then we took the bus on W. Cabrillo Boulevard up State Street (the main street) to visit the nearby tourist sites. We got off at the bus at Anapamu Street and...More

This building is a real highlight of any tour of downtown Santa Barbara. It is by far the nicest courthouse I have ever visited. Not only is the interior interesting and historic, but there are interesting views from the accessible rooftop.

The free tour is very interesting, especially the clock tour and the mechanical room for the clock and bells. The view is excellent!

Don't miss this architectural gem with commanding views of Santa Barbara from the observation deck. Court rooms with ornate woodwork and murals bring you back to a Hearst Castle like era. Free to public.

We took the waterfront shuttle from the cruise dock to downtown Santa Barbara, and dropped off near the courthouse. (The shuttle costs 50¢ and comes about every 15 mins). I really recommend a visit to the courthouse while in Santa Barbara -- it's free and...More

We went on this tour by luck alone. We decided to visit the courthouse because it was an overcast day. We lucked out that a tour was leaving when we arrived. Our guide (Mike) was so friendly and knowledgeable. So glad we did this!

I can't remember for sure, but since it is a public building in use every day as a courthouse I am pretty sure it opens at least by 9 am.
