I've probably been spoiled by the Detroit Institute of Arts, but there was very little to see here. I was very surprised by the extremely small number of exhibits.

Extraordinary collection of world famous artists. Especially the Impressionists. Also has a very worth-while Asian museum and many sculptures from the Roman & Greek eras..

The museum has apparently been under renovation for quite a while, and when we were there only three of the 14 galleries were open. We weren’t expecting much, so we were in for quite a pleasant surprise. We toured works from the permanent collection, a...More

Even though the museum is under construction the few permanent items and special exhibits were very interesting.

Currently under reconstruction, the gallery is limited in space. We saw two very interesting exhibitions of photography, an exhibition on portrait painting, and a selection from the permanent collection. The latter contained some very interesting 19th and early 20th-century works, by the likes of Monet,...More

Although its a small museum we do enjoy it. Almost always buy something from the gift shop - they have great fun things to get eastcaost friends as gifts. Worth the trip.

Being a small city, Santa Barbara is indeed fortunate to have such a "big city" art museum. Some real treasures in their permanent collection. The museum shop is also worth visiting. Recommended.

I was lucky to visit the museum when the admission was free. Although it has a small collection the pieces are impressive especially the Impressionists. Don’t miss the museum shop for special souvenirs to benefit the museum. It’s all conveniently located on State Street.

I went out of my way to visit this museum, only to discover that the building is under renovation and only one room contains selections from the permanent collection. I wasn’t even told this upon entering the building! There’s no clear warning about this on...More

I visited this museum as part of the gargantuan LA/LA: Pacific Standard Time event organized by the Getty. Santa Barbara is a sleepy town full of retirees. However, the museum operates at a high standard. The exhibit I went to see was a mid-career retrospective...More
