While the Cabrillo Beach is very large, Arroyo Burro (aka Hendry's Beach) has a nice atmosphere, tucked between two cliffs. There's a nice seafood restaurant available, and dogs are welcome (leash rules are posted). A personal favorite location!

Great little beach for walks, ocean relaxing. Dog friendly in parts. Parking can be tight on weekends in summer.

Heard by two locals as we sat in our chairs reading; "I wouldn't wear my new suit here. The last time I did it was ruined by tar!" Not exactly what you want to hear if you're thinking of enjoying a day at the beach.

Great cafe on the beach with good breakfasts and decent happy hour specials, showers for rinsing off wetsuits or kids, and good direct access to the beach. Small beach break waves for surf or boogie boarders. Lots of locals walking dogs.

I suppose it depends on day of the week, time of day, but when I last went it was so crowded, I didn't really enjoy it much. If you walk and walk, you can leave it all behind, however. Watch out for the tar, too.

Several things make this one of the nicest places to beach walk. First, you can take your dog offleash if you choose to go in the Easterly direction or visit wonderful tidepools, "caves" and very interesting beach rocks covered in sealife if you walk west....More

Unfortunately the car park does not open until six in the morning otherwise I would be there at three! A great place for a dawn walk although look up when the tide times are before leaving, otherwise you might get stranded or your walk cut...More
