I just love shopping and exploring State Street. My get away spot from the mountains to the sea. Great food, great beer, great people...just an overall relaxing place to visit.

State street is a nice area..it appears a little stressed with some vacant store fronts but overall was enjoyable. Great bike lanes if you want to take it in that way as well.

Recently I rented a bike and rode up State Street and stopped at Alice Keck Memorial Park (beautiful gardens and pond), the Sunken Gardens (both gardens are one block over on Anacapa St), browsed thrift shops, ate at the taco place at the Public Market...More

Was hoping to find authentic Southern California boutiques, shops and galleries. Nothing could be further, Old Navy, Forever 21, H&M, Only one ice cream shop. Bummer!

Best bet would be to take a hop-on, hop-off trolley. Direct, not from the ship, most ship trolley tours are none stop.
