The beach was horrible it was absolutely a mess. There was trash everywhere you couldn't avoid it. You would think that sense it is such a big tourist attraction people would actually want to take care of the beach but they don't. If you think...More

I found if you pass Santa Monica pier towards Malibu the beach becomes quieter & a lot more pleasant. South of that that to many homeless, the smell of cannabis & undesirables.

The water was quite dirty to swim in on an overcast day. We got some lunch from the food trucks and had lunch on the sand. It's a far walk from the sand to the beach. Heaps of homeless people around

We went there to take the photo for the Route 66 end of trail sign. It appeared that there is a concert and full of people. The Santa Monica wifi is very bad and traffic is bad

The water's cold and filled with debris. The beach is dirty and filled with homeless people. Highly overrated beach.

Santa Monica Beach is iconic so if you're in LA, it's definitely worth a visit. You can rent a bike and go riding on the bike paths here, it's also pedestrian friendly and of course there's the pier. It's also where Route 66 meets the...More

We took the walk along the front from Venice Beach to Santa Monica and the beach all along the way was beautiful. My choice for a stay on the beach would be Santa Monica as it has such a nice area around it - Venice...More

This is our 3rd trip to LA in the last 10 years and we always go to Santa Monica Beach. It is clean, huge, and easily accessible. The best beach in LA, in my opinion.

A sunscreen is a must! The beach seems to be cleaned up daily. Tons of sand, the beach is so vast, loved it. Lots of people, but you can surely find a spot where no one will bother you. Really pleasant, not too loud. There...More

Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a
balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a
thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers,
roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the
famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles
weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa
Monica pier spins high above the water, while park
revelers scream with delight riding the roller

Will be staying in Santa Monica for 4 days. , not much time, hollywood one day and would like to drive the coast another but not be on the car all day. What would be a good destination to enjoy the PCH views with breakfast of the ocean, and end up on a beach.

You can stay in Santa Monica at the Channel Road Inn which is a 40 minute walk in to the centre, but is a 5 minute walk to the beach. It also offers free parking. You can drive to Malibu from there, where there's a great... More

I didn't see any free parking, but I didn't think it was bad to pay $5-$10 to park in a parking lot that's right on the beach. I saw at least 4 along the strip of water between the Venice Beach pier and the Santa Monica pier.
