I can't remember my instructor's name :( Which is awful, because he was great! He showed me the basics on the sand, then we headed into the water. Surfing is terrifying and exhilarating. There were a few moments I was scared out of my mind. The ocean is crazy beautiful, but crazy just the same. My instructor was right there... More

I figured out that I wana do surfing in the last minute while visiting coast line there. And contacted bunch of other places who does that. But this one replied really quick and made me available session today. As I couldn't do other days or times. Waves where big and heavy and difficult today, but still I had an amazing... More

I had made plans over a week in advance with Nick for private lessons for my two boys, with one instructor per child. We got there 10 or 15 minutes before the scheduled class and no one was there. After waiting for 30 minutes an instructor showed up and told us that he didn't know about our lesson but that... More

I understand your concern and I can assure you this rarely occurs but yes I had a instructor cancel on me while I was in the water. I truly apologize for having you guys come down and waste your time. I am open to offering free lessons if you guys ever decide to give me a second shot. My apologies... More

Having never surfed before, this was the best way to experience it for the first time. Our instructor was friendly and helpful without being too technical and got us out into the water quickly (enabling us to get the most out of the time we had). We felt completely safe and soon picked up the basics, being able to stand... More

well i walked up at 9:15am. . .asked them if my two boys could take a lesson. within 30 minutes Vanessa had them 'hanging ten' and surfing; mind boggling really. . . she was great. . .they were flexible with the time since we only had about 2 hours in Santa Monica before we needed to leave. .. . .... My son and I took a 2 hour lesson with Nick on Santa Monica beach. It was fantastic. If you're at all interested in learning to surf, this is the way to do it. Nick is a great instructor, patient, easy-going, but determined to get you on your feet. I would definitely do this again.

I truly had an amazing time with Nick, he was so helpful and patient. He also got photos/video of me surfing with his go pro. The lesson was two hours long and they provided all the equipment necessary. I recommend Santa Monica Surf School to anyone interested in having a great first experience.

Thought this would be a once in a chance life time event for my oldest son just about to turn 10. He was stoked about it but also a little scared....mainly because of SHARKS! He talked to the instructor (Nick) before he took to his first wave about shark attacks! He then was over his fear! And well 1 hour... More

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
