I'm writing about the Gold Lake Area in general as my view (my picture) from a smaller lake about 5 miles south of Gold Lake, near the Sardine Lake Resort is taken at the edge of the "sand pond" which flows into the Sardine Lake. The Sierra Buttes highlight any background view from the dozen or more area lakes. Some... More

The boat ramp is closed in 2016 due to renovations, but we were able to find another spot to launch our boat. It was close by, we asked at the campground. I caught 3 fish, it was a good day! We were there in the late morning and early afternoon, until the wind came up and the waves got choppy.... More

Great lake for families to camp, fish, boat. Need to be off the lake by late afternoon due to high winds that wip thru the canyon.

The Lakes basin recreation area is a gem. There are more than 100 lakes in the region. You can hike to all of them. Some of the best are round lake, silver lake, cub lake, little bear lake and big bear lake. There is a loop trail to see all of these, about 6 miles total. Pretty easy trail, but... More

About 10 miles outside of Graeagle. Beautiful drive & views. One of several lakes in the Lake Basin. Clear, cold water. Many trails

One of many tiny alpine lakes in the area. Great fishing, and they have a lodge and camping. Very popular, hard to get in.

This is always a pleasant stop whether you just sit for a while, have a picnic lunch, walk around the area, take some pretty pictures. The rivers and lakes are suffering from the CA drought but my brother flew his drone and had a memorable time. Was very glad I brought him here. There are many beautiful lakes in the... More

We have visited gold lake camping for 25 years but in last 8-10 years the secret is out and it's very busy. Arrive mid week for a good camp spot. If possible use your 4x4 to camp at the OHV campground along SW shore. If you time it right mid week, you will have quiet and isolation. Weekends it gets... More

We honeymooned here while backpacking around the lake..in the snow. We lost the trail for awhile, then bushwacked our way back. Ran out of water and the purifier broke. But we made it, loved it and will go back again and again. Beautiful place.
