This small neighborhood historical, gourmet, cheese store has to be visited when you're in downtown Sonoma. Famous for its dry Jack, it carries a nice selection of other cheeses, and the friendly staff happily cuts samples of all the cheeses they stock, hoping you'll buy, of course. Do so!!

This is the finest cheese I have ever eaten... PERIOD! I have been shopping at Vella for more than 15 years and have never had anything but perfect cheese. My favorite has always been Raw Cheddar, but they do not make raw milk cheese any longer. Now I have been buying and eating the Sharp White Cheddar and it is... More

Vella cheese factory makes cheese the way it is supposed to be made, small batches, attention to detail and hand crafted. There is a 'companion" cheese factory in the town of Central Point, Oregon a short drive from Ashland, Oregon. Here too the cheese is made in artisan style and has won many awards for their Oregon blue. Vella cheese... More

We travel to visit friens in Sonoma almost yearly. We have never missed a trip to Vella. We buy the award winning hard cheeses to give to friends back in Savannah as hostess gifts. We'd put the aged Jack up against any Italian grated cheese.

Great artisan cheeses handmade right there. Somewhat hidden a few blocks off the Sonoma town square but worth the effort in finding, especially if you want to grab some cheese to pair with great local wine for your impending picnic. Enjoy!

So good, wouldn't miss a visit to Vella when in Sonoma. Their dry jack is incomparable. Their reputation is well warranted.

While taking a walk around Sonoma, found our way to the Vella Cheese Company. During my husband's career, he had the opportunity to meet with Ignasio Vella. We found him in old pictures on the store wall. His family still operates the store. It was a quick visit. The store is tiny. We picked out two or three cheeses which... More

Great Cheese, including mild and spicy. The prices were very reasonable - especially compared to other cheese factories on the Sonoma cheese trail.
