About
Founded in 2011, Ram’s Gate is entering a new era of winemaking excellence, focused on creating wine with character and poise. The winery’s portfolio showcases wines that are fresh, compelling and uncompromising in quality, sourced from vineyards that encompass the spirit of Sonoma County. The winery’s connection to the land is reflected in the breathtaking tasting room that overlooks the estate vineyard: 28-acres of organically farmed vines nestled in the southern tip of the Carneros AVA. Rooted in exploration, the Ram’s Gate Winery team brings a new perspective on refined elegance through thoughtful farming, transparent winemaking, genuine hospitality and sublime culinary experiences.

Our second visit . We had another great experience at Ram’s Gate . Paul , our host was knowledgeable, helpful and professional. He really knows and enjoys his wine . The wines offered by Ram’s Gate are generally very good . A couple of the wines that Paul suggested were not our style but we ordered a few . We , as a rule , don’t care for Pinots but we really liked what was offered and the Grinache Syrah was our favorite. We ordered the charcuterie board which was very good . Beautiful facility, stunning views and surroundings. Professional, pleasant staff .

I splurged on the 'experience' because the menu looked great. The food was superb as well as the wine. The guide, Mark, was helpful and easy to talk with. I bought several bottles and look forward to trying them with the same kind of food we had! I love seafood except for octupus and the octopus bites were tender so really enjoyed them. The building is spacious and gracious. Ram's Gate has an elegant yet low-key modern ambiance.

We enjoyed the 'Christmas Eve Supper' from Ram's Gate Winery. The short ribs were fantastic! Very meaty and tender, lovely flavor. The french green beans, potato puree, and stuffing were a perfect complement. For dessert, Sticky Toffee Pudding! Delicious. We paired it with a bottle of Hyde Vineyard Syrah. Was ready for pick up and the scheduled time and was packaged so nicely.

Ram’s Gate Winery is an outstanding experience. The wines are fantastic, and the buildings are well decorated. We truly enjoyed the culinary & wine tasting experience. Sergio did a great job taking care of us.

Good Chardonnays. Food has been upgraded. Service and presentation for food pairing was, as the French would say "Catastrophe!" Maybe it was a bad day, my gut says no. Oh well, there plenty wineries to wine taste. However, it's nice to be the first vineyard from SF, 30 minutes away.

This winery is well worth the journey out of San Francisco as a destination place to visit not only for the selection of wines available but also because of the impressive venue. depending on traffic, this is about an hour and a half outside of the city.
If you come for the winetasting then I would highly recommend the pinot blanc which is light, fresh tasting without being sharp or overly dry and very drinkable. It is the kind of wine that you would easily serve to people at a garden party or as an aperitif before dinner.
The Pinot Noir is also very light, smooth and balanced. You could easily keep this as an every day wine or serve it as a drink with barbecues or lighter dinners.
But really the reason to come here is that the venue is beautiful with a open air and slight hunting Lodge feel to the place. It is very reminiscent of some English manor houses in the way that it is decorated in certain rooms.
There is a panoramic view across the valley is looking through the vineyards and to the distance the gently undulating hills.
My recommendation is to come here just before sunset and aiming to get here by 4:30 - 5pm as it would allow you to get something to drink, find a great place to perch and watch the Sun go down over the surroundings.
The food here is impressive to with the predictably but enjoyable light Californian style of food including slow roasted squash or pumpkin, grilled chicken and bavette steak as well as some light salad is available.

Such a beautiful winery should not be missed! From our entrance, we were escorted to the member's tasting room complete with a wall of windows and a handsome fireplace. The architecture is stunning, the wine presentation educational and the hospitality staff efficient and friendly. A stroll down a path to the pond below placed us in adorondack chairs beneath a blowing in the breeze willow tree. We watched a picnic basket with wine and small plates of food being placed on a Ram's Gate blanket for 2 visitors. Presentation very impressive!
Landscape architecture lovely. We watched butterflies playing among the lavender, a contrast of yellow wings and purple flower...so pretty.
If at the entry to Sonoma Wine Country on HWY 101,
GO!!!

We live very close and used to stop by often. Never a good experience so we gave up. But they are not very welcoming. They stare at you and expect you to say what you want. They might only allow members only to come in, I am not sure. But if we say we want to taste and buy, they act like that is unusual. They must be a member only club. I suggest you drive another 10 minutes where there is Jacuzzi and Cline where they welcome you, explain your options and have beautiful grounds.

Would not recommend this when you are in the area. So many other wineries that are so much more professional and welcoming. Terrible tour, rushed and the person did not know a lot about the wines. When we visited it was our 4th day in the area, we did 5 winery tours prior to this stop and this was the worst by far. Not worth the money, staff was not at all welcoming, wine was very overpriced and average at best.

Not more than 30 seconds into our visit at Ram's Gate, I knew we were in trouble. No matter what other wineries we were visiting that day, this could not be topped (and it wasn't).
Our first impression was that this place is BEAUTIFUL. Seriously, not just the view, but the architecture of the building and the aesthetics were gorgeous. The marble bar, huge vaulted ceilings, and enormous entryways make it a bright natural modern space, not similar to any other wineries we visited that day. The largeness of the building exceptionally complements the vast view. We sat on the back patio taking in the amazing view with our food and wine flights. After we finished, we walked around the property and sat by a small lake. We walked back up and sat on one of the many comfy chairs they have stationed on the back patio overlooking the property. Breathtaking.
WINE: We were seated on the patio and ordered a flight of 3 whites and 3 reds. We had planned to split flights or do one glass at a time (to pace ourselves and not kill our wallets) but immediately upon being seated, this felt like a truly special place to splurge. I enjoyed all of the wines (except the Chardonnay - too buttery for me), and while no one wine stood out to me as life changing, some were better than others (loved their Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir).
SERVICE: Our waiter, Benjamin, could not have been nicer. He was attentive and explained all of our wine choices, but more than anything, I really appreciated how excited he seemed about everything. He told us a lot about the background of the place, the chef's history, the wine varieties, etc. He was super easygoing and comfortable that it felt like a friend inviting us to his home. Thank you, Benjamin!
Lastly, the FOOD. We were treated to the menu for members which had a variety or amazing food pairings. The first plate we had was a watermelon salad with sweet corn cream, basil olive oil and feta cheese. This was like summer on a plate. Definitely the best thing I tasted on our entire trip, and possibly one of the best things I've ever eaten. The other item was the pork belly slider. Is pork belly ever bad? This was delicious.
If it isn't clear already, this place was phenomenal. We ended up staying 3 hours instead of our planned 1 hour. Maybe this is (still) the wine talking, but I could not have planned a better experience for our first trip to Sonoma. After a few glasses of wine, we signed up as members...the only time I have made an alcohol induced purchase with zero regret.
