When traveling through the Death Valley area consider visiting beautiful China Ranch, near Tecopa California. China Ranch is a family owned and operated small farm, a lush piece of greenery amidst the forbidding Mojave Desert near Southern Death Valley. Imagine towering cottonwoods and willows by a wandering stream, date palms and abundant wildlife, all hidden away in some of the most spectacular scenery the desert has to offer. The Ranch is also rich in history. The Old Spanish Trail is within walking distance, as is the historic Tonopah & Tidewater railroad bed. Hike to nearby abandoned mines if you wish, or just relax and browse through our store. We offer several varieties of California dates as well as our own hybrids. Try some delicious date nut bread, muffins or cookies, or take home one of our unique hand-crafted gifts. If you are interested in learning more about the wildlife, plants or history of the area, try one of our interpretive guided nature walks. Learn about the geology, botany, birds, and early man in the area. The Old Spanish Trail comes alive again and much more. Visiting China Ranch can be a wonderful one day adventure or highlight of any trip to Death Valley. We are not a resort or tourist development, but rather a working family farm in a truly unusual setting.

Interesting place to visit en route to Death Valley or just as a daytrip from Las Vegas. Sample several varieties of dates; try a date milkshake (sweet, but good) or home-baked date muffins, cookies or bread. Wander through the date palm groves. Several trails to follow for hikes.

I found out by accident that there was a date farm in Tecopa while checking out the hot springs. I was floored. During the drive through desert on dirt roads, I really questioned the sanity of such a venture, but was pleasantly surprised when the oasis of date trees popped into view. The dates were excellent! The store offers a... More

Early morning visit and lost people there already. We had a date shake, tried some dates and a date cake and coffee for breakfast, had a site out on the sun and mooched about Lots of walkers and hikers there and you can stroll around the date farm. Nice to see the farm/ranch used agains after so many years abandoned.... More

A few friends and I explored around the China Ranch after picking up a tasty date shake. We hiked along the river trail, and we will be returning because the view is spectacular. it was also fun to walk around the farm and learn about the different kinds of date trees.

Must visit for a family. We stayed in Pahrump, NV and took a scenic drive via NV-372 W, CA-178 and 127. It was one of the memorable landscape we ever visited. Enjoy the date palms and the people in the China ranch are welcoming. I had date shakes and eat a lot of date samples too.

Interesting day spent here. Ride down the road past old fenced off mine sites. Great antiques on desplay as well as for sale. Everything dates: cookies, bread and shakes.

This place is quaint. It is hard to get to because part of it is on a dirt road. The date nut bread, dates and the date shake were all very good. I hope you get the chance to sample all of them.

This was a fun place to visit. I knew nothing about how dates grow until I spent some time here. I learned a lot. In the gift shop, visitors can try free samples of dates. That was a lot of fun. I also bought a date shake in the gift shop. I was disappointed to learn it was not really... More

A friendly and fascinating little spot. The folks there were very friendly and helpful, giving us great suggestions and maps for hiking to a nearby slot canyon. There's a wonderful variety of dates to sample (free) and they can be bought at a very reasonable price. Nice tables to picnic at (bring your own picnic), interesting gardens and date palm... More
