The University Botanical Garden is a great small/medium sized public venue on the outskirts of the city which is easy to access. The garden has a good variety of formal and informal planting including an excellent herbal section. The character buildings and scattered sculptures provide lovely backdrop for interesting photos. There are plenty of open spaces for children to play... More

So beautiful and peaceful despite being in the middle of a city. Very well looked after and easy to get to.

During the summer we took our grand children to look at the gardens, and felt rather disappointed. For a city the size of Leicester we felt that the gardens were not very well maintained, and in some places it was downright scruffy. What a letdown!

Absolutely love this beautiful, quiet, hidden gem. So well looked after, well maintained paths to wander around on even when it has been raining recently. Autumn colours gorgeous. Looking forward to visiting again in different seasons. Some of the greenhouses close around 4pm, I think, and they're closed at weekends due to some thefts. Highly recommended, will return.

Lovely spacious gardens. Best in spring and autumn. Please can you change you rule on dogs and let them in on a lead, say the first weekend of every month. Three stars would then be five.

Not overly publicised but a nice peaceful place to spend a few hours. As an amateur photographer its always of interest and presents a host of opportunity. Nice displays of tropical plants, and those from an english country garden with a huge range of Fuchsia. There's a small water feature and a cafe but to be fair I've not tried... More

The sort of place that there should be more of. Free, informative and beautiful. Great place to draw and photograph. Children love it.

Absolutely gorgeous, very well looked after garden. Wish I had discovered it sooner. Definitely worth a visit. The staff seemed very hard working, and there were such a variety of plants and trees. My favourite bit was the sunken garden.

Tried going here on a weekend when we have visited all our local parks repeatedly!! So fancied a change.. the gardens were well maintained.. greenhouses were closed. Large space areas to enjoy a game of football and a picnic!

For the information of the reviewer who could not find the Botanical Gardens you have to enter in Glebe Road ,which is directly off the A6 .It is a very interesting place ,particularly if you are a gardener. Entrance is free except for some weekends if a special event is being held . It was created by combining the gardens... More
