Neighbourhood: West Hollywood
For years, West Hollywood has been known as a hub for the LGBT communities in Los Angeles. Today it still maintains the title, but has also become the “it” neighborhood for the entertainment industry’s up-and-comers. Producers, directors, writers and aspiring actors call this area home. Known for great boutique shopping, vintage clothing stores, home décor shops and fitness studios, West Hollywood is a grid of wide boulevards and narrow residential streets. The neighborhood also has a concentration of the most avant-garde restaurants in Los Angeles (rivaled only by the burgeoning restaurant scene Downtown). A trip to the iconic Sunset Strip, with its many clubs, music venues, hotels and flashing lights won’t be forgotten.

You can’t come to LA without walking down sunset strip and one of the stops has to be The Viper Room. Unfortunately the night we came it was closed so lesson learnt is to check out the website first. Can’t wait to actually see it next time we visit.

Rest in peace River Phoenix 31OCT1993. My death metal band friends were performing tonight in a sold out show, the place isn't big so you have to buy your tickets in advance for some gigs. Dark as Death and Letum Ascensus put on a killer show at this legendary venue.

I didn't actually go in,but back in 1996 my mates and did a 3 week tour of the West coast.
Whist in Los Angeles, my mates decided to visit Tower records on Sunset boulevard.
I got bored so took a wander, and accidentally found The Viper Room
This was only 3 years after the passing of RP.
Always regretted not going in.

Firstly I would like to say that I am trying not to be fussy here, but my experience is an honest one. We were there to see a friend who was one of the singers performing in the small downstairs lounge. The web site indicted doors would be opening much early than they were, so we were stuck with a very early arrival and sat in a parking lot behind the Viper Room. That was $20. Parking is seriously nasty in the area. The amount of pot smoking in that parking lot was pretty stunning. At one point during the wait, we considered putting corn nuts out on the building pipes to take bets on which one would be grabbed by a rat first. Most of the patrons we observed were pretty much the "you can't tell me what to do" types, and rather obnoxious during the performances. The downstairs lounge was small and limited. Could accommodate maybe 25 persons comfortably. Upstairs was standing room only unless you were paying to reserve one of the few tables there. Now if you are going there "for the history" of celebrity overdose deaths on the sidewalks, this is your place. The building itself is old, restrooms limited, and a very crowded, uncomfortable venue. Drink prices were pretty typical for this sort of venue. I think we had $4 diet cokes and $10 whiskey rocks, both a fairly small pour. Most of the staff was nice but obviously had to put up with a lot of people that don't pay attention or were mouthy. The area had problems that night. I think within 1 mile of us, there had been one shooting in the middle of the street near Sunset and Hollywood Blvd., and a lady had been stabbed in another club nearby. That is what the area has become. Again, we traveled about 2 1/2 hrs to support someone, so it was on us, but this would not be a choice in the future.

We just had to stop in to have a drink before seeing a band at the Whisky A Go Go. They are right across the street from each other so you might as well. Lots of history in these walls. We arrived there early to look around so it was pretty empty at 5:00 but a fun happy hour starting to gather. They said your wouldn't be able to walk later when the music started. I'd go back, Very small so get there early if you want a booth.

Lovely manager who allowed us in to take photos & showed us downstairs to VIP area where River Phoenix was on the evening before he died. Nice club originally owned by Johnny Depp, happy hour each evening, groups live on stage, mainly good tribute rock bands.

My first night in Hollywood I decided to check out the viper room. Saw the doors cover band “Peace Frog” there. Amazing band. The staff is friendly and awesome to talk to. Would definitely make a trip back here. Fantastic place.

Too thrilled that an old school hip hop act, "Slum Village" was playing the Viper Room during my visit. My experience was GREAT! We found safe reasonably priced parking near. We ate a delicious meal at the pizzeria across the street. We got on line and the doors opened promptly. Ms. Marilyn graciously took our money at the door (we had not purchased advanced tickets). The crowd was refreshing, authentic (not too hipster) and appropriate (not too young) for the act. The performances were GREAT! Service was good at the upstairs bar where we got shots and beers. Service was even better in the downstairs bar/lounge seating area with merchandise from the bands. I asked the stylish bartender downstairs for matches or some sort of keepsake. She eagerly tried to accommodate my request and found a sticker that says "Support Local Music The Viper Room". I feel honored to have enjoyed an authentic experience at the Iconic Viper Room.

Where do you take New Yorkers who are in town for just one night?
My old college buddy and his wife were in LA for the day to attend a professional seminar and symposium. Their one demand was to be shown an atypical LA nightlife. This was next to impossible because they were not here on a Friday or Saturday. On the contrary. Their one night in LA was on a Tuesday night! A Tuesday Night! I called my old party buddy and he scored me some tickets to see Tiffani Jenee at The Viper Room.
The room is small but they have very comfortable booths that seat about 6-7 adults. The drink prices were a bit high but within typical LA nightclub prices. The 1st band was Blind Innocence. They had some great songs and the lead singer reminded us of Gwen Stefani. The 2nd band was Tiffani Jenee and they tore the house down. The sound system was first rate. We could hear every instrument and vocals clearly. The sound was loud enough to convey a great party, but not too loud to not enjoy the music.
Anyway, my friends had a great time and I looked like the hero of the night. They went back to New York with some great memories thanks to the Tuesday night entertainment and rockin atmosphere of the Viper Room. BTW- We met other couples that night and partied with them until closing. Also, I've heard rumors that the Viper Room has been sold and may not exist by next year. So if anyone is reading this you have until the end of the year to make it down to West Hollywood and check out The Viper Room for yourselves. I can only imagine what their Fridays and Saturdays must be like if their Tuesday night was that awesome.

The Viper Room is an intimate night club where you can get up close to the performer.
Get there early and you can park in the small parking lot in the back. The building is a little misleading the entrance is on the side not in the front.

What time is happy hour during the week and does anyone know of an inexpensive place to park nearby?

We were there in Dec. 2019 and stopped into the Viper Room around 6pm before seeing a show at Whisky A Go Go and had happy hour. Draft beer was around $5.00 ea. I believe. We were the only few in there but the sound guy there said it would be standing room only when the show started later. It was cool. The downstairs bar was not opened at that time.
Hello je voudrais me renseigné à propos des prix des boissons comme Coca ça coûte combien ?

I'm on a wheelchair. Is the venue accessible? Are there particular tickets for people with disabilities?
When will The Viper Room ever sort their sound system out? It has to be undoubtedly the worst setup I've heard! The sound engineer appeared to be either deaf or seriously off his dial, it takes away all the hard work and energy the band's strive to put across to the crowd! As a professional session/ touring guitarist I was gutted at the lack of sound equipment and experience for an establishment boasting top acts!!!
My question is what other venues would you suggest other then that earache?
Is there a cover charge
