The Yolo County Historical Museum is located on two-and-a-half landscaped acres. The buildings include the main house with eleven rooms; outbuildings with root cellar and dairy display; a laundry display; garden maintenance and supplies; a garage used for storage; a barn with antique wagon; a blacksmith shop; and cottage. Please check the Calendar to see if Museum is open on the day you plan to visit.

The Gibson House is unique because it is the only historic home in Yolo County open to the public. The main themes of the museum are the establishment and development of farming and ranching in Yolo County, as shown through the life and work of William Byas Gibson and his family. The Gibson House is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

We visited the museum after perusing a craft fair on the museum grounds. Surprisingly, it had vignettes of years gone by that were well presented and gave you a sense of years gone by in this farming community. There were only a few exhibits but they were very interesting. We are new to this city so this was fun to... More

Walked inside once a few years ago after moving to Woodland. Slightly cramped, with a lived in feel. Not a long personal tour.

The Gibson Mansion, grandest in Woodland, has become more than a historical museum. They have inside tours but check on that schedule. They host public events, weddings, etc. as well civic events. During some events a blacksmith shop is running. Only street parking is available, so expect a short walk for the more popular events. The only place to eat... More

We went to visit Woodland from Sacramento yesterday partly to see the Gibson House museum because their website says it is open the last Saturday of each month. Well, it was not open and furthermore there's a big sign at the entrance that says you need a permit to even take a picture of the place. It looked liked they... More

This beautiful mansion was one of the original town's land grants. It has been nicely restored along with barns, creamery and other out buildings. The docents give a good tour and it is a lovely place to relax under giant oak trees. It is a fun way to share history with children.
