Our first visit to Breck, and this “hike” was highly recommended. It did not disappoint! We went on a Monday afternoon around 4pm, and there were very few people there. So peaceful. We took 2 laps of the short loop to enjoy it twice. This is a must-do and can be done in 30 minutes.

Sapphire Point is easily accessible from Swan Mountain Road with a pull off parking area near the trailhead. Facilities are available there as well. The trail has spectacular views with Lake Dillion and the mountains in the backdrop. The trail is easily negotiated with some resting areas with table along the way. We did the trail in both directions to enjoy the views each way. The friendly chipmunks add a bit of entertainment to the trail. No fee required.

This is a great place for beautiful views and is very accessible. The drive from Breckinridge is short and really easy. We stopped at the 7-11 on the way out of town to grab sunflower seeds for the chipmunks. There are at least 15 parking spots but they filled fast because someone was getting married at the overlook.
The trail is well maintained and fun for all ages. There are two main spots to stop and look over Lake Dillon and watch the chipmunks.
There is one restroom at the entrance of the trail.

This Overlook is just a few miles north of Breckenridge - easy to get to. The overlook has amazing views of Lake Dillon. There is a wonderful loop trail that the overlook is on. You can head left or right from the parking lot and you will come to the overlook shortly. Easy hike for people - saw families picnicking as well on the picnic tables at the eastern side of the loop trail.

We decided to tak the 17 mile loop around Lake Dillon and this was one of our stops. Great views and a short little hike along the ledge back to the parking lot., You should do it.

Highly recommend visiting Sapphire Point Overlook when in the Breckenridge area. It was a short, easy drive up from town. We did this on a beautiful sunny Saturday in August around 9:30 AM and the parking lot was already very busy. It is a short, mostly level walk to the overlook (slightly uphill on the way back to the car). The overlook area itself is pretty small so best to take turns with other visitors getting the pictures you want. You can continue on to a longer hike past the overlook if you want as well. I also suggest continuing on past the overlook in your vehicle and driving Loveland Pass, at least up to the Continental Divide, for a beautiful drive.

Great spot to get out of the car and see beautiful Vistas and get some great pictures. Mountains, lakes, and wildlife. Be sure to bring some treats for the chipmunks as they are everywhere you look. The trail is super easy and makes a loop that doesn't take more than 20 minutes to get around if you are walking slowly and about half way there are picnic tables.

All of Dillon Reservoir is beautiful but this particular point is exceptional. There is a gravel path way around the point that offers a quick jaunt for more perspective views. Or you can hop on the paved bike path and go either direction. It's all beautiful and you can easily see why people have weddings there. Easy to get to and worth the quick stop.

So beautiful. Well worth the stop. Free parking and restroom available. It's just a short walk over to a great overlook to see the lake below. Mountains surrounding are gorgeous. (Especially with snow.)

What would be the best time to get married here? Anyone elope here before?
Written July 21, 2020
Decide when you want pictures by talking to wedding photographer. Best to take pictures at dusk? Right at sunset? After sunset? Will you do first look pictures? Or just after? Google can track the exact sunset times.

Is this trail wheelchair accessible? Also can two people go into the bathroom if I were to go with the person on wheelchair to help? Need to know for a wedding in the family at this scenic look.
Written February 24, 2019
I would not recommend the trail for a wheelchair. The bathrooms are near the parking and might be able to fit the chair and you as a helper.
I'm sure there must be more friendly spots for wheelchairs. My mom uses one and I would not try this spot. Hope that helps.

It is open year round, but the trail isn't cleared of snow so there are times of year it's technically open but most of the path is blocked.

Does Sapphire Point cost anything? Or only if you want to reserve it?
Written October 21, 2018
It didn’t cost anything- & it’s just a picnic bench on the side of a mountain so it’s first come first serve. Good luck!

How does the altitude affect the walk? I live in a low altitude area and sometimes am short of breath walking in higher altitudes. My granddaughter is getting married at Sapphire Point Overlook and I'm trying to decide if I should attend the wedding.
Written June 8, 2018
The walk from the parking lot to Sapphire point is fairly flat. I am assuming it will be at the lookout point. It is a beautiful spot and you shouldn't miss it. You can take it slowly, just make sure you don't go back the long way. If the altitude bothers you when you get there, just rent some oxygen. My husband and I were married there 16 years ago. It is a beautiful spot for a wedding.
