Had a great time with Phillip and Davis on the 2 hour Mt Princeton trip, horses were great, guides were great, my kids loved it and we'd do it again.

Excellent ride, good horses, and nice wranglers
Aug. 2018 • Family
My family of four and my best friend and his wife went on a two hour ride this week. The staff was really good. Neither one of my boys had ridden before and they helped them get use to guiding a horse. The ride was just right. Rode through some nice forested areas and across streams. Ride up to a good overview of the valley below and good view of the peaks. Wranglers were wonderful. Would definitely do this again with this stable the next time we are in this area.

Great Afternoon in the Saddle

Grandsons (7&9) really enjoyed the 2 hour trail ride. Crossing streams, going up the mountain, the ride had a bit of everything you would like in a trail ride. The horses and equipment were in very good shape.

Oversight?
Aug. 2017
On August 3, 2017 our group of senior women were taken on a trail ride. Our guide was riding "Max" . She stated that she had never ridden him before. She had a great deal of difficulty with him and had to lead him on foot through parts of the trail as he would not proceed. I mention this because I feel that her distraction with Max could have lead to issues of safety for the rest of us. When we reached the top of the ridge, we were not allowed to disembark from our horses. She had a great deal of difficulty getting Max to stand still or be tied up so that she could take some pictures. Consequently, she never checked the cinches to our horses. Our guide stopped several times to deal with her issues with Max. When we arrived back at the stable, a bench was brought out to help the riders disembark. Being an experienced rider, I proceeded to get off of my horse. My saddle was loose enough that the stirrup slid down the side of my horse as I had my weight on the left side. I slipped and fell as my left foot was in the stirrup. Fortunately, I dropped but about a foot off the ground as my foot came out of the stirrup as I fell. I feel that this problem could have been averted if our guide would have checked all of the cinches and tightened them once our ride had begun. The trail was steep and rocky and could have been disastrous for all of us. Upon visiting with my friends after the ride, it was revealed that at least three others had detected loose saddles as well.

Beautiful Views of the Collegiate Peaks! A great ride
Aug. 2017 • Couples
We did a 2 hour ride one afternoon last week. First off, the staff was very helpful and Jill (our guide) did a great job in costumer service. The ride goes through pine forest, aspen groves and crossed a creek 2 times. We went to a beaver pond and even were lucky enough to see a moose there!! The views from on top of the ridge look up the mountain and down into the Arkansas River valley. it was gorgeous! The horses were pretty well behaved. They put me on a mule, instead of a horse, and I wasn't really sure why I was riding a mule when we were going horseback riding?? Overall, I had a great time and would definitely go back to this stables for a rode!

Amazing views
Aug. 2017 • Family
My 12 year old daughter and I joined another family on a 2 hour ride. Beautiful scenery. We had to wait for the rain to pass before starting but thankfully the weather was perfect for the ride. The horses were great with river crossings and navigating up and down the mountain trail. Adam was a great guide!

The best way to see the beauty of Colorado!
Jul. 2017 • Couples
My husband and I spent a week in Buena Vista and enjoyed every second of it but the horseback riding was the highlight for me. I was raised on a horse farm in the Midwest and trained horses professionally for several years, however, this was the FIRST time my husband was ever on a horse in his life! He was given a very calm, safe animal (Jibbs-the mule) and was able to fully enjoy the absolute beauty of the Colorado wilderness. I rode Little Molly and enjoyed her sweet spirit very much. These horses are very well cared for. They are healthy, fit and given many opportunities for water and extra food. All too often horses for rent in these scenarios look emaciated and dehydrated. I am happy to say that was not the case here! We cannot thank Garrett and Ellie enough for the wonderful ride. Can't wait to go back to Buena Vista and ride longer next time!!

Fantastic ride through the mountains!
Jul. 2017
We booked the 2 hour horseback ride in conjunction with a white water rafting trip through Noah's Ark. The family was split as to whether they liked rafting or riding more! We have gone on numerous rides before. I usually try to book one horseback riding trip whenever we go on vacation. This one was by far our favorite. They took us up into the mountain and through some pretty good sized streams. It was just awesome. You will not be disappointed. The guides were a lot of fun too. You could tell they really enjoyed what they were doing. I am terrible with names, but I believe they were Adam and Garrett. The animals were all in great shape and seemed healthy. I rode a mule for the first time...Elvis. He was super sweet. I liked too how the guides would refer to the different horses and talk about their personalities like they were people. Anyway, it was a fantastic trail ride and you for sure need to book it!

Wonderful views from the back of a horse
Jun. 2017 • Friends
My daughter, sister, and I recently took a riding tour of the Collegiate Peaks area of Buena Vista, CO with Harvard Riding Stables. The route was beautiful as we crossed creeks and climbed and descended the mountains through pine and aspen forests using a section of the Colorado Trail. Our guides were capable and friendly, keeping our horses steady while making our ride pleassant.

Hard to find but a fun ride
Jun. 2017 • Family
I would love to give 5 stars because I did enjoy the riding experience but there were a couple of issues so I'll make it a 4 star and explain myself. First of all the place is very hard to find. They tell you not to use the directions online but then when you ask for directions they say take county road 306. Since I am from Texas that didn't mean much to me. When we got in the general area I called for directions and he said "take county road 306" which I was on. It is a long road. We eventually found it but I really think better directions should have been provided. That being said the ride was nice. I was on the slow mule. He was a hoot. My kids enjoyed their rides on the horses. It did feel very nose to tail . I'm not sure if you could somehow space out the riders to give the horses a bit more room to move? The guides were nice as can be and I do recommend this activity. Just...directions to the place are very needed.
