We traveled very slowly about 10 miles down the gorge, looking through dirty windows. We ate very bad, overpriced food. We then went 10 miles backwards, very slowly, to the depot. I love almost everything touristy, grew up in a tourist town, and my husband loves scenic train trips. Neither of us could find anything good about this.

We ordered snacks and enjoyed the view along the Arkansas River. At the Royal Gorge Bridge (955 feet above the river), the train reverses and begins the return trip. As you travel, you can see how narrow the canyon is and appreciate how difficult it was to build tracks along the steep canyon walls.

This was our 2nd visit to RGRR. We traveled with our family ages 1-55. Everyone from the gift shop staff to the waiters on the train went above and beyond to make our experience a success. We set in the Vista Dome and were very comfortable. The kids play area at the depot was a nice surprise and kept the... More

Recently rode the holiday train in the club car. 2 hour round trip, there and back along the river with great scenery and info along the way. We saw 6 bighorn sheep and 1 bald eagle. The train stops for about 10-15 mins at the gorge. Seats are comfortable, 4 people to a table, great window views, bathrooms in each... More

Thank you so much for the review. We are sorry to hear in the delay of your food service however, appreciate your patience and understanding. How fun that you were able to see the wildlife, we often see the Bighorn Sheep year round but this is an especially good time to spot the Bald Eagles (January and February). Thanks for... More

My second ride on this line, first for a dinner trip. i like the dome car views. The organization is well done. The food perfect, we both had prime rib, which was full of flavor as were the other food items for the evening. The staff was full of smiles and liked their jobs being excellent at what they do.... Really enjoyed our trip on the Royal Gorge Railroad Santa Express. We did this the day after Thanksgiving and really enjoyed the trip. We sat up top in the overlook car and enjoyed a nice lunch served by Kacey. We sang Christmas Carols, the kids played games and we picked up Santa Claus at the North Pole who rode back... More

We have taken the train through the Royal Gorge many times, but this was our first experience riding the Santa Express. Everyone from the ticket agent, gift shop staff, our excellent host/waitress Jennifer B., and helpful Conductor Jeff made this a magical experience for our two children. It was a Christmas Eve they will never forget!!

The Royal Gorge Route Railroad is a wonderful train ride into the past, and into the Gorge. We booked passage on the Santa Express for the lunch train recently. Alas, the weather was so brutally cold that it must have caused a problem with the train brakes--not something you want to experience with a 200 ton diesel locomotive leading the... More

It's a bit awkward to write this review, being that my family never got to ride the Santa Train. We made reservations super early in order to avoid missing out on what we're told is an amazing experience. At 8pm, the night before, we received a phone call explaining that because of the recent harsh weather, the brakes on the... More
