More activity than what we saw in other downtown areas. A few shops, a few restaurants. If this is supposed to be a major attraction it was disappointing. Took no time at all to see the entire area.

I recently left a review about downtown Denver and primarily the 16th Street Mall. I cautioned travelers to avoid that area.
I realize though that I would be remiss in not pointing out some of the better areas in downtown.
Larimer Square is definitely one of those spots. Larimer has been my go-to destination for years. It’s fun, vibrant and has a great urban vibe. There are so many good restaurants and great places to hang out. I love when they have festivals and block of Larimer. It’s worth a night on the town or a lazy Sunday lunch.
Also the area around Union Station is much better then it once was. I still prefer that area during the day but there’s tons to see and do and make sure you pop into the train station. The Art Deco architecture is a treasure.
Capital Hill area during the day ‘should’ be ok but you want to be aware of your surroundings anywhere downtown. The Denver Art museum is a must see and the Denver Public Library across the street is worth a walk through. To the West of the museum is the Molly Brown house. It’s fun to tour. And about 1/2 a block away will bring you to an amazing little pub called Pub On Penn. If you’re a whiskey connoisseur you’ll love this pub. There are several b&b’s in this area. While I wouldn’t walk it at night alone you should be ok during the day. That said I would be careful around the Capital and Civic City Park, both of which are just to the north of the museum. The park and the steps around the capital are two areas where there are a lot of homeless people. There were encampments all over Civic City Park the last time I was down there. I know they are working on moving these individuals out of the area (hopefully to places that are safer for them as well) but at the time of this review it’s still an ongoing issue. The museum has a great parking garage but I won’t park in it. From what I can tell there are few attendants in the garage and I don’t feel safe. I actually feel safer parking in one of the open lots and walking. Parking is expensive downtown so be prepared and most side streets don’t allow parking by anyone except the residents.
Denver is a beautiful town with lots of history. Enjoy!

I ventured to Larimer Square to have dinner at this one place that I researched, but I was disappointed as they were closed due to a private event. However, this opened up an opportunity to try another restaurant where I had a fantastic dining experience. Larimer Square is a pedestrian friendly street in a historical area of the city, with several restaurants and bars on it.

It was a festive and full of energy street in the recent past. We always enjoyed it during our trips to Denver. Currently a little subdued... Still great restaurants...I guess the recovery from Covid is not fast enough. I hope for the lively Lateiner to be back soon.

We were disappointed in Larimer Square. Very few shops, but some good pubs. Maybe the pandemic caused the shutdown of many of the shops. Hope they'll open again.

The street itself is very cute and a great place to take pictures. However, we went during the day for the shopping but there wasn’t much there. A lot of shop spaces were empty and every shop still there was very expensive.

Denver got its start on Larimer Square between 14th and 15th Streets and Larimer Street in the late 1800s. It is the site of the original pioneer camp, then known as Auraria, where a group of American Indians and settlers struck gold in 1858. Named for the pioneering General William Larimer, it was the city's first block, its first commercial district, home to its first residence and first City Hall, and was the city's first designated historic district. By the 1900s, the area had deteriorated. But in 1965, Larimer Square Associates began restoring it as a historical and commercial center. Today, it is Denver's urban shopping district where Victorian buildings house specialty boutiques and unique chef-driven restaurants with one-of-a-kind stores and distinctive fashion offerings. It is an iconic, lively and pedestrian friendly gathering place that covers 700 acres, where downtown Denver comes together, the place to start your Denver experience. We went here on a very hot Sunday afternoon. Disappointingly many of the shops seemed to have shut down and so although it is a pretty area it didn't take us long to see it all.

Nice enough space, but not many shops were open. In mid afternoon, many of the eateries were closed as well. Probably more lively later.

is this area dog friendly? are dogs allowed in any of the shops?

Hi, I personally did not travel with my dog, but there were many places that dogs were permitted inside the shops and restaurants. Water bowls for dogs were outside at many places as well. Hope this helps!

Sometimes you can luck out and find an open meter. There are some parking lots nearby. At Larimer and 14th are on ground parking. Two blocks over, the Denver Center for Performing Arts has a garage. There is a garage at Tabor which is a block East. A few blocks north are other garages. And there is valet parking on both sides of the street on Larimer! Parking isn't a big deal.
