A recent federal court decision decreed that a blanket fee like the one the Forest Service tries to charge at the base of the Mt Evans road is illegal. You can enter the area, drive the road, stop along the roadsides, hike into the wilderness,...More

I was torn between rating this drive a 5 because of the sheer amazingly, awe-inspiring fear and dread for driver, and a 1 for the exact same reason. We had driven down from Breckenridge & did a 3 hour white-water raft trip out of Idaho...More

The road to the top of Mt. Evans isn't for the weak. It's challenging and very exciting at the same time. There's overlooks that are amazing. There's areas with lakes that you can stop and catch a breath, relax and meditate. If you are looking...More

I took this trip with a friend, and was our very first in the Denver area. I give it 10 stars. We had a full day tour to Majestic Red Rock amphitheatre followed by a drive/stop to Mt. Evans to witness the first snow fall...More

Although the weather wasn’t all that clear, the experience of winding our way up the steep cliffs of the dead end road was thrilling and ruggedly beautiful. This road is not for the faint of heart (no guard rails for most of the way), it...More

The road to Mt. Evans is fantastic! The 14 mile journey up to 14,000 elevation is challenging. Perhaps not for the faint of heart. There are lots of switchbacks, and no guardrails but that adds to the excitement. An awesome place to see the Big...More

Just put in Mt. Evans, as the lake is on the only road going up there. Or you can put in Echo Lake Lodge, which is the restaurant about 1/4 mile further up the road.

Hi! It’s very easy to get to. The lake is not that far up the mountain, so I would assume it’s easy to access until it snows. I’m not sure when the very top closes. Have fun!
