This is a great experience. BRING WATER AND A WIND BREAKER OR COAT. Stop at Summit Lake and hike up to the top of the trail to the right of the lake. It's about 30 minutes to the top and worth the huffing and puffing. Bring coat, gloves and wear GOOD hiking shoes. Drive to the top of Mt. Evans... More

$5 access fee and worth every penny! Starts with pine trees lining the road and quickly goes above the tree line revealing amazing views and crazy drop offs. The road does get narrow in some places so be mindful of hikers and bicycles. By the lake the road gets very rough with pot holes, buckles and uneven pavement. This is... More

We spend the better part of a morning driving up to the top of Mt. Evans and it was totally worth it! Unfortunately it was foggy by the time we got to the top, but it was still a great experience. We were very excited that we got to see mountain goat!

Best to go in the late spring and summer. But if you have the time to make it up here it is well worth it for view seekers and amateur photographers alike.

A nice road trip exploring very scenic Colorado. Mountains, lakes, wildlife out every window. God on sunny days and also good on the inclement weather days in the springs (although the views are not as good in the clouds - it is still a good drive)

You can visit Mt. Evans one of two ways if your coming from the Denver area. Way-one entails taking I-70 to the Evergreen exit then following the road to Evergreen you'll see a sign (small -medium) saying Mt. Evans. Taking this route is slower 9two lane)but, has unique stops for overview of mountainous area's. You have to pay a fee,... More

I always take visiting guests along this route. Every turn you take leads to a new vista to view. This is a do not miss while in Denver. It is close and you can go to Beau Jo's or Tommyknocker Brewery in Idaho Springs on your way there or back!! Plan on 4 hours.

Alpine meadows, Rocky Mountain goats and much more can be studied and enjoyed on this winding drive. Not for speedsters. Talk your time and linger. There's a lovely camping/picnic area and a vintage log structure/gift shop/restaurant just outside the entrance to the federal park.

Every year when I come home from our summer business in WY we take a drive over this beautiful road. Our friend rode his bike over it last fall and was wowed! In the summer the little gift shop and cafe are a wonderful stop after a hike along the top. You won't regret this choice.
