We rode thru on the Durango - Silverton train. Such beautiful and clean nature - the air so crisp! We will be back to do some hikes here for sure!

The San Juan mountains and forest offer great views of the west. We enjoyed traveling through. At one overlook, a group of us watched a black bear eating berries on a slope for about 30 minutes. We were lucky to be at the right place at the right time.

The whole area is just beautiful! I have many pictures and they all turned out great. We didn't see a lot of wildlife but that was probably due to the time of year.

Drove through San Juan National Forest. Beautiful. Spotted a few of natures creatures out and about. The river and the abundance of trees is breathtaking. Some of the Aspens were already turning lighting up the forest with color. Well worth the time to adventure through!

I came out to western Colorado to get my annual fix of beautiful fall colors. I drove down from Montrose, Co. through Telliride and down to Cortez then over to Durango. The mountains are alive with fall colors. Around ever bend and over every hill is more beauty to behold. I have been to northern Colorado mountains before but these... More

We have driven through here several times from Durango to Silverton or telluride and what a beautiful place. The views from coal bank pass and molas pass are amazing. As you come down molas pass the Silverton overlook is jaw droppingly beautiful. This last time through we got to do some hiking around Engineer mountain. What a way to spend... More

I traveled down here nearly every summer from Denver to four-wheel drive, then hike and backpack these glorious mountains before moving to Durango in 1991. The Rockies are spectacular, the Sierras are amazing, but, for me, there is nothing to compare to the San Juans with their steep sides covered with waterfalls and wildflowers. If you are unable to hike,... More

Be ready to take hundreds of pictures, because the views are all different and include everything from lakes, to mountains to crevasses, to natural castles on the tops of mountains.

There are a variety of campsites in the San Juan that are easy to get to. All forest roads are clearly marked, so you can find hiking trails.
