At the end of March the top of the trail was extremely icy. The trail is 1.2 miles with 1200 feet of ascent. It is rough going and even without the ice it is hard work. The lake is quite nice.

Beautiful place glad I went years ago when hardly anyone was there. Still beautiful but awfully busy and not everyone is respectful of the place.

Loved the hike...the top was well worth scaling the icey conditions up (given we went in March). Would highly recommend appropriate attire and research conditions before going during this time of year. May not be appropriate for young children given the icey conditions we encountered....More

This hike was wonderful!! Very adventurous and fun, however if you go in March or anytime in the winter season, you will have very few crowds, but be prepared for LOTS of ice. The whole hike was very steep and with ice it took a...More

We tried to hike the trail without spikes on our boots based upon some incorrect advice from a local. Sooooo, we made it half way up, slipping and sliding on the ice-covered ground. We purchased some spikes and went back the next day prepared! The...More

Beautiful views amazing destination. The only bad thing I can say is the trail was a bit crowded but that is to be expected. Be prepared for the hike comfortable shoes and water. The hike was worth every step.

Beautiful hike in both the summer and the winter. Trail generally stays nice and packed in the winter so snow shoes aren't any good for this trail, but you will need snow spikes, especially towards the end of the hike. It can be quite slick....More

Lots of snow and ice on the trail, which made it so beautiful, but a bit treacherous. Clamp ons and poles would have been helpful. It is listed as a moderate trail, but the last 100 feet were definitely not moderate, along with other parts...More

This is an awesome trail with great scenery on the way up to the hanging lake. Hike is steep and hanging lake is 1.2 miles from the trailhead. You will gain 1k feet on the way up. Put aside 90 mins to 3 hours for...More

This hike was challenging for our 2 young children and even for us at certain times. I was scared the kids would fall down the steep rocks at some points. The lake itself was beautiful and the short hike to spouting rock was worth it....More

Greg D, as of 2 weeks ago they did not charge a fee or have a shuttle system. It was a gorgeous, warm sunny day and we had to wait almost an hour for a parking space to be available at Hanging Lake. It was also Easter... More

It will be cold then, but pretty sure the trail is open year round. The surrounding weather and roads would be the only limitations if it has snowed a lot. Check the roads with CDOT. Any precipitation on the trail would... More

Typically it is open year-round except for certain days for trail maintenance. Wintertime would possibly require the right equipment such as crampons and proper boots, clothes and poles. Hanging Lake is part of the white... More
